- Zair| 4 repliesGot a call today telling us papers were going to be served and to call this number. reached a James Howlett, claiming to be a lawyer from a firm that does not seem to exist called Jensen and Roth informing us of a debt we do not owe on an old bank account. He became quite abusive when asked for his address, any kind of documentation or any other kind of information and positively irate when we told him we would not pay until we could sort out where this is coming from. After some digging around on this site and finding many more results with tons of people speaking of the same harassment sometimes with the same name, but different companies. I checked our credit report and sure enough I found a request from today with the same address others were reporting finding.

I also found this on several of the other number postings:
Welcome to the Corona Scam.
They make up fake "debts", often from pulling your own credit reports, finding an old account, and pretending you "owe" it to them. Then they call and threaten you, either directly or through fake "process server" calls to relatives, pretending they have "sued", or that you will be "prosecuted".
They operate under more than 60 names out of Corona CA, and keep adding new front names and numbers as too many complaints pile up against the old names. You can find complaints against them all over 800notes, whocallsme, and similar sites, against all their names and numbers. The MO is always the same, as described above. It is basically a fake "debt" extortion racket, involving wire fraud and illegal access to credit reports.
There are reports they are under investigation. Contact FTC.- Caller: Jensen and Roth

- Cynder replies to ZairThank you so much for posting this information. You have helped us understand this upsetting mystery. Same story, only they called about a relative. Said that they wanted to serve papers for a relative who does not live here. Wanted me to pass on info to relative and of course fishing to see what they could get out of me. Luckily I said nothing as the whole thing sounded absurd. The call back info was different, but the story is exact. I would think they use multiple phone numbers etc. Couldn't get much info out of the person. She claimed to be a process server and knew nothing about the nature of the summons.

I called the FTC and BBB about them but they confirmed im not the only one who has called and informed me that they buy debt from original creditors and sue them. Wells Fargo confirmed my debt and i had to verify who they were but i had no idea Well Fargo sold our debts. Im very upset about this.- Caller: Lawyers
- Gunnar replies to MIKE LYCON| 2 repliesDEMAND a full, legitimate letter of validation. Check your states Statutes of Limitations regarding debt. One way or the other, you'll find that you don't owe a dime.
It's a 99% probability that you are legally obligated to pay NOTHING! Do your homework. Be aware that when you receive a phone call from a debt collector the odds are about 90% in your favor of them being smoke blowing scammers. Legitimate debt collection agencies rarely come into conflict here on this site. When a person owes a legitimate debt, to a legitimate collector, the matter doesn't show up here often. Only the lowest of the low come into play here.
Learn your rights under the FDCPA. It's easy, just Google it. If you're being pestered by a collector that is violation of the FDCPA, inform him that you know that he's a bottom feeding parasite that is not worthy of notice. If they can't, or won't, provide you with written proof of their claim, by mail (NOT e-mail or fax.) , they are FRAUDS! Always! NO Exceptions! EVER!
Be Safe. Be Aware.

When i called witht he reference number they told be they were trying to reach a certain person. They game me the year so i could tell if it was my son or exhusband because they have the same name. I spoke to a Tony Anderson. He informed me there was a legal matter in which papers needed to be served to this individual. They had the city and state my son lived in but my son no longer lives there. They asked for me to reach out to him to have him call. They said the victim lives in California and that the trial may be held where the victim lives.They said if my son did not reach out to them they would send legal documents to me. My son is an adult and i dont' think that is possible. My son tried to reach the number with no luck so he googled it and found this information on the website. i received another voicemail today.- Caller: Kelly Anderson, Tony Anderson
- Riley| 1 replyReceived a call concerning my son. He hasn't lived at home for over 14 years. I did not give the caller any information about him but she asked that I contact him concerning "legal documents and a notice to appear." It sounded fishy to me and I asked her who he should ask for. She said she was just doing the calling for a process and verification company, and when he calls he should refer to case #--------. I did call him and we both agreed it was a scam since it was an 800-number. However, a week later we both received a voice mail, sounding threatening. On that same day, my son's employer was called and the receptionist was asked to call back for instructions for the caller to drop off a summons for my son. Although we know this is a scam, my son was distraught that his employer was called. We're not sure how we should proceed. We hate to hire an attorney for this obvious scame.

- Lauren| 1 replyI am very confused at how to proceed. I do have student loans that need to be paid, but currently that is my only debt. I don't want to ignore this if they are going to begin harassing me or my family members. I answered the first call I received and the only information she could give me
was that someone needed to deliver certified legal documents to me and wanted to know if I would be home
at around four. I said no and inquired about detailed
information which she could not release to me but gave me the 855 phone number, which I have not called yet. Please give me advice on how to proceed. - Alfalfa replies to LaurenThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

After reading all the blogs i paid 1200.00 and was worried i called wells fargo they did inform me they sold my old account number to 8 different shops we found the right one but was worried it was sold elsewhere. I demanded a paid in full letter and was provided on the spot one at wells fargo office 30 branch. So at least im satisfied i have a peace of mind i dont owe it.- Caller: satified
- OH GAWD replies to DORIS| 1 replyI checked on bing on them and also my experian i know i owe it but how can i see who really has my account i just want to pay it i it on my check systems. So ichecked 5 different agencies and they told me to ask wells fargo. i called this place and they did give me wells fargo's number so i doubt its a bluff move. they also told me to confirm the account number and social security and it all matches. I dont know if they are really scamming me or if some of the comments you guys are just as misleading. Some of you are just wrong and i feel others can relate to me and want to do whats honest.
- MarieJust received a phone call from 1-855-876-8923 wanting to reach my son. I asked what it was in reference to and they stated they were trying to serve papers to him. I asked what company they were from and they said Jensen and Roth out of California. I suggested that they were conducting a scam but followed up with my son calling them. They brought up an incident in Minnesota 5 years prior that was settled 4 years ago. At that point my son realized it was a scam but not before they had rattled off his social security number. He contacted the Federal Trade Commission and has put his account on Fraud alert. But something should be done to these people.

- Resident47 replies to Connie DwyerRidiculous. When a creditor sells your account to a junk debt buyer, it exits the scene for good. There is no way a bank branch gave you a "paid, thanks" letter, much less traced the chain of title for you. This comment is not only suspect but a flat lie.
- Resident47 replies to Riley} We're not sure how we should proceed.
I'm sure. You demand validation *on paper*, which you won't get, then you SUE THEM for false legal threats and needless intimidation dressed up as skip tracing. You might "hate to hire an attorney", but a good one familiar with consumer law would love to have you for a client on contingency, thanks to the fee-shifting provision in the FDCPA.
