While trying to Google I received a (Blue Screen), with very large font that stated Windows error Do Not restart! Call1 855 790 1710 for Technical assistance! I ran my anti virus software and it  found NOTHING. However, there was no way to get rid of this phony  screen. I finally ran System Restore and it was removed. I then called the number and was put on hold for a short time, before a man answered and started to ask questions about software I was using. I told him and he stated it was very poor at catching Malware. I then asked what kind of software are you selling? He immediately hung up! SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!

Happened to my wife Around 2:30 Eastern time. Same thing as Gene explained. She hung up as soon as he asked for $99.99 to flush it out.  I had a buddy stop by who knows his stuff and he took care of the problem. SCAM ALL DAY LONG!!!

This is happening more frequently when I go to GOOGLE and I get "locked into" this page that says I have a virus and it won't LET YOU LEAVE.  I have to CONTROL ALT DELETE to shut my system.  It's some call center IN INDIA and they try to sell you a $100 software product YOU DON'T NEED to clean  your computer.  IT IS A SCAM AND GOOGLE SHOULD FIND OUT WHO IS TAGGING ON TO THEIR SITE AND DIVERTING TRAFFIC TO THESE A--Holes - excuse the language but this is OUTRAGEOUS.

I got the same thing when I Googled mapquest.com. I got a red warning screen, indicating that my computer had been infected with an adware virus that would access all my personal information. I also had to do the control/alt/delete and shut everything down in order to get rid of the screen. When it happened the second time is when I called the number. The warning said that Google had blocked my internet access to protect my information, and instructed me to contact the above number to protect my information. I called the number and spoke with a guy named Michael who said he was with Microsoft. He had me go to a "help" site "www.fastsupport.com", wherein he asked me to click on a tab that would allow him remote access my computer. He said he needed to have this access in order to remove the virus. My response was "OH HELL NO!!", "I am not giving anyone remote access to my computer". At which time the call ended.  Be aware, once you give someone remote access to your computer, they have everything. Bank accounts, credit card information, Investments, contacts, etc. etc.

You are correct. I can tell you how that screen most likely happened too: it was a malicious ad.
