- Toni in TxRecorded message about changing electric providers.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- CJ in TXGot a call from a guy who says they're trying to match up consumers with the best available electricity rates in their area. He said the company name was Energy Discount Service. I can't find such a company on Google. He says they're trying to provide a service, so I ask who pays for the service, and he doesn't answer my question. He says since I'm under contract with a provider, they won't 'mess with that' because they "wouldn't want [me] to have to pay any cancellation fees or anything." So then he says sorry about the call and hangs up. I'm wondering if it's people who are charging consumers to shop on the various free websites to find the best rate, and then charging people for that service/effort.
- Caller: Energy Discount Service

- Fed Up| 2 repliesI received a call from a lady with a foreign accent (possibly Filipino?) about energy discounts in my area. It was not a recording, She asked for me by my last name.
When I asked her what company she represented, she said "Liberty Power." I then asked her if she had a do not call list and, if so, could she add me to it. She said she would. Since I was calm and polite, she was as well.
Liberty Power is a real power company. However, this telemarketing call to my home phone was made in violation of the government's do not call list, and so they will be reported to www.donotcall.gov.- Caller: Liberty Power
- Call type: Telemarketer
- zxcv| 1 replyThis is obviously some kind of scam. The caller told me he could lower my ComEd bill by 25%. I asked him if he worked for ComEd and he said yes.
- Caller: ComEd???
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Ha! replies to zxcvNo, he works for a ComEd competitor and they're making illegal solicitation calls.
- Internet Reporter replies to Fed Up| 1 replyOld reply, but info to help others.
--If you are on the FCC Do Not Call List, it does not mean that a company cannot call one time! They get a "freebie."
--Tell them you are on the list and ask them not to call back. If they do, then you can report them.
--If you are on the DNC list, then you should know this, as it's clearly stated there! !! - Slim replies to Internet Reporter>> If you are on the FCC Do Not Call List, it does not mean that a company cannot call one time! <<
Incorrect!
LEGITIMATE telemarketing companies, who have paid to receive the DNC list, are told not to call list members ... not even once! However, if a person has recently signed up for the list, it takes about 30 days for the updated list to be distributed.
Illegitimate telemarketers, or scammers or spammers, ignore the DNC list.
The evidence so far presented in this thread strongly suggests the caller is one of the above.
