I received a call claiming that it is Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC regarding my outstanding bill and that if I pay over the phone that they would take 20% off - doesn't seem legit to me.

Hmmmm, I was IN Lenox Hill Hospital recently...I didn't get to hear the entire message, just the number and to call back.  Sounds like a legit number to me.

Message claimed I have an outstanding bill at Southside Hospital. Never been admitted to Southside in my life. Total scam.

Billing Dept for North Shore LIJ Hospital Systems.  In my case the call was valid.

Your an idiot if u think this number is legit!!! its a total scam!!! If they were a part of the hospital then they would know your date of birth etc...not call u and ask for it!!! to be fooled!!!

Please have these calls stopped!

It's not legit. Need to find out how to report these calls. They keep leaving me messages. It's not Lenox Hill Hospital.

This is a collection line for hospitals. It's legit as I have a bill due and was admitted to Lenox Hospital.

North Shore LIJ / Lenox Hill Hospital Billing and Collections. Leaves a voicemail sometimes cut off asking for a callback.

I got a call from them regarding a North Shore - LIJ bill I'd forgotten to pay.  I do believe it was legit.  

At least in my case, it seems to be a legitimate number. I got a bill from North Shore LIJ Hospital, which in my opinion was sent by mistake (the bill was definitely sent by the hospital). I called the number indicated on the bill (which is not the number under discussion here) and the recording asked me to leave a message, which I did.

The next day I got a call from someone who was clearly aware of all the details I had left in the message. He told me that the bill was indeed sent by mistake and that I owed the hospital nothing. I asked him to send me a statement showing that I had a zero balance and a few days later it came in the mail.

Since he called from 855 853-6968 and the number on the bill was different, it is reasonable to assume that the hospital uses a collection agency whose number is 855 853-6968.

I received a voicemail from this number and immediately called back. I spent a lot of time at hospital in Lenox Hill so presumed it was to do with my account despite the fact I had paid all outstanding balances about 5 months ago. I was told I had a balance of ~$160 to pay. I queried this and said I had cleared everything I owed. After a short pause she told me I was indeed correct and to disregard the call, voicemail and any bills. Somewhat strange.

I received a call requesting all of my personal info.   This is the  5 th call, already having one asking for my social security number.   All of which I would not give over a phone line.   It is of concern because when you see your doc, you provide this info and include insurance with id's.   Anyone who gives info of this nature over the phone, risks becoming involved in a scam.  My advice, share that you will provide any needed info at the time of your next appointment.

I did not receive any hospital or doctor's bills that I haven't paid in the mail, so why is this "collection agency" calling me and leaving messages? Hospitals have to send you an itemized paper bill, then notices by mail that it's over due if left unpaid, and THEN, a collection agent would be contacted. I won't be calling Northwell.

Received a call from this number and had an automated voice say “Please hold while we access your records”. It then went completely silent, after 2 minutes of that I hung up. Don’t call if you’re not ready to talk.

Didn't answer. They sent me a surprise medical bill. I sent them insurance info. They did not like that. They want money. They shall not have it. That is too bad. :(
