Someone used my credit card at west virginia

I received a voice mail which claimed it was from PNC concerning purchases made to my credit card. I was asked for my "sixteen digit account number", which is also known as "credit card number".

The voice mail knew the last four digits of my credit card, but those things can make their rounds as the only visible part of a credit card number. The entire system seemed unlike any phone system I've ever used from PNC before, and I don't think PNC would ever want to know my credit card number -- just a name or other non-identity-stealy bits of information.

I did make some large purchases around that time, so I had assumed that PNC just wanted to clear those up. I cannot say for certain that this was NOT actually PNC, but I certainly hope they would be less shady than this.

I got a call from 269 544 7920, a number in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  He said he was from PNC and had the last four of my number. He said I should call 855 866 6950 to clear things up.  I called the number it was an answering service.

PNC Fraud detection.  Received two calls telling me to call here because of large withdrawals on my PNC account.

After calling them, they resolved my situation.  Called up PNC's number on the back of my card and went to the fraud department, worried because of the first post here by Fraud Alert.  They confirmed that my account had been put on hold and a new card was being shipped my way.  Is legit.

This is not a fraud - I got this message and proceeded to contact the pnc virtual wallet number regarding the card in question, and they verified that this number is indeed the number of the fraud branch. They ask for you to verify your date of birth and your ss last 4. They had put my card on hold but after verifying that the purchases in question were mine, took it off hold and it's all good. I suspect this was due to the large sum, so if you've just made a large purchase and receive this call, you can feel safe that it's the fraud branch from pnc just doing they're job to keep your account safe.

Absolutely a legit number, but calling the one on the back of you card is a good rule to verify anyway.

They left a message with a family member to call back twice in one evening. Didn't trust it so called the usual number. Turns out someone was trying to use my card number to make multiple purchases which they stopped (about $500) worth. New card being sent out with new number.

Do NOT ignore calls from this number!

This actually is PNC. I was worried that it was a fraud because they asked about a spotify charge which I've been paying for for years so I didn't see how it could possibly be suspicious. I called the Virtual Wallet number on the PNC website and verified that this was indeed their fraud prevention number.

I got a voice message from one number and said it was from Fraud detection of PNC bank and asked me to call back on
855-866-6950. When I called they asked me to give the details, luckily I did not give the complete details and cut the phone. I called back on PNC customer care number and they said they do not recognize this number and is probably a scam since no one had tried to contact me from Fraud detection of PNC bank.

I also got called and asked about charges on my card.  I was told that my card was put on hold until I called 855-866-6950 to confirm or deny the charges.  I did so.  The phone was answered by a brief message about the call being monitored.  Then an actual person came on and asked me for way too much info.  I gave it, but then immediately called PNC using the customer service number on the back of my card.  After navigating their automated menu and a subsequent 20-minute wait, I spoke with someone who was able to verify the number and confirm that my card had indeed been flagged and put on hold, and finally that the hold was removed within the last half-hour.  It's the real PNC fraud protection number.

We received a voicemail to call PNC BANK FRAUD DEPARTMENT at 855-866-6950.  Verified with the banks main number it is legit.  Can't be too careful.

but didn't pick up since I didn't recognize the number. The guy left a voicemail message claiming to be a PNC Bank representative from their security department. He claimed that there were suspicious activities on my credit card. I don't know how he did this but he was able to identify the last four digits of my card and provided a phone number (855-866-6950) for me to call back to. It was a different phone number than the one he called me. Any way, I followed my gut instincts and contacted PNC directly and spoke with a legit person from the PNC security department. After confirming a few details and my recent activities, I was told there are no suspicious activities on my card. I googled these numbers and it looks like people had the same experience and I.

If you receive a call from someone who claims to be from your bank.... but then they need you to provide further information like your card's expiration date and and all digits on your credit /debit card, it may be a scam!! I recommend you call the bank directly to acquire legit status on your accounts with them.

This number is good, and calls showing as being from Kalamazoo MI are definitely PNC, so no worries on that front.  The number they called from was 252-451-3600 and the caller ID showed up as "PNC Bank."  The 855 number was the one they gave for me to call back.  It was their loss prevention department calling to verify recent activity on my husband's account.  As it happens, he did use his card today for something out of the ordinary for him, and we had recently had a breach of his debit card info, so I appreciate that PNC is being vigilant on our behalf.

Even so, it's a good thing to be suspicious.  A legitimate caller will never have a problem with you wanting some proof they are for real.

The pull-down menu for "call type" for this post doesn't offer "actual legitimate call" as one of the choices, which is kind of a bummer.

Legit number for PNC loss prevention.  They caught two fraudulent charges on my card.

This is legit. Called the number on the back of my card instead of the number left on my voicemail and they verified that two large purchases were made with my debit card (at places I wouldn't shop and that totaled more than my available balance!).  

We just got a call from there, they asked for the actual card number.  PNC doesn't need your card number, they can look directly at your account.  When asked why he needed the entire number, he said, "because we need to look up that information"  when I questioned it, he cut me off and told me to then call the number on the back of the card.  If your bank calls, and needs to report to you suspicious activity, they don't need YOU to give them info, they already know it. Especially not your debit card number.  Your debit card goes back to the account the card is related to.  It's a scam to get your card numbers.

PNC operates Loss Prevention areas for their cards in Kalamazoo, MI, Pittsburgh, PA, and Rocky Mount, NC. When calls are made from those locations, you will see local area codes (269/412/252 respectively) - the call back numbers are generalized to 8558666950 and 8558666958 and can connect to any of the three locations.

I received an email saying they needed to contact me about activity on my card ending in (they listed four digits).
I checked here and see mixed comments about whether the number is real or not. Then I called the number and after being on hold for about five mins. A guy answered and asked for my full card number. I said that's a problem since I am responding to an email sent to me and not sure if this is really PNC. He says, you are right you should NEVER give that kind of info over the phone. You should call the number on the back of your card.

Um, ok then why do they ask for the full card number??
Guess I'll call in the morning since the number on the card isn't manned after 10pm.

281-881-6096 belongs apparently to my ex-boyfriend, Joseph Michael Luetge that resides currently in Houston, TX. There are so many things that do not add up and he has been caught in many lies. I knew this number that should be his company number from, Accent Foods, where he is titled at the regional manager, was somehow connected to a fraudalent number or virtual number. In the last 2 months my phone and many accounts have been hacked and my Iphone 6 was recently taken over to the point Verizon's insurance, Asurion said to call the cops for identity theft. I found MANY statements of unpaid bills, notices from debt collectors and other information that his life is not as Joseph Luetge. He is currently almost all moved out, but the last letter in the mail I received were from 2 credit cards accounts granting him access: Nordstrom and Wells Fargo. He already has Bank of America and Chase apparently and I have seen statements he owes on accounts for thousands. Lastly, he buys and returns and buys clothes and misc items and used my brother's name Chris LaPoint, which I have the receipts from 6 days in a row of him shopping in this manner. What would be my next step to figure out if my identity is still okay and others, as well? Thank you, Nicole LaPoint

I called the PNC customer service number on the back of my card, and they did verify that 855-866-6950 is for their fraud prevention department. There was a high dollar purchase recently made that they were checking on. It was a legitimate call.

Its the real PNC fraud/loss protection number.
