- Cheryl| 4 repliesCalled my cell. Caller id showed a local name and number for someone I don't know. Eva left a voicemail saying this was a courtesy call, that she was with Document Delivery Service and that they have a delivery for someone that doesn't live here that requires a signature regarding some property. The person needed to call the 855 number within the next couple of hours to schedule the delivery. I could hear lots of voices in the background saying the exact same thing Eva was saying. Pretty sure it's a scam since they were spoofing their caller id, not to mention that this isn't the first time they've called my cell for other people.

- West Coast Mom replies to Cheryl| 1 replyAm constantly getting calls about a lawsuit against five or six people with the same last name. It’s been going on for a year. They call from different numbers (that I block every time), telling me they are delivering papers to whatever the person’s name is that day and my # is a point of contact. They give a case number and this 855 number to call. My list of blocked numbers (mostly from this &$@)! is now longer than my list of friends! There’s always a bunch of noise in the background and the callers are all different—men and women who leave their “names.” Today was a man with an Indian accent who left a Hispanic name. The DND registry apparently doesn’t mean anything. So annoyed!!
- dee replies to CherylI got it too. Same thing. Sound like a scam. I'm ignoring it.
- AnonGot a call too. Not sure what this is. We think it's a scam.
- RON ADAMS (DA NY)| 3 repliesIts a great call received my envelope on time and now i feel better than i've ever have!! Don't ignore this call it may change your life!!
- Not Ron Adams replies to RON ADAMS (DA NY)Wow what an authentic sounding testimonial! And since you put (DA NY) behind your name, that's all I needed to see. It's impossible for an attorney (real or fake) to tell a lie. Couple questions: do you still have that model girlfriend from Canada? Has your dad retired from Nintendo yet?
- Annie replies to RON ADAMS (DA NY)You must work there
- John BryceSame as other responses. Someone called using the wrong name and wanted me to call back for a delivery.

- JB| 1 replyYesterday, A woman called from same company. She said, the other party involved has already made an attempt to contact me and they only make TWO! I have to contact them, give reference number before a judgement is made against me, without me involved.
Today, Luis called from "Document Delivery Services", said I needed to call back and reference case number.- Caller: Document Delivery Services

- BigA replies to JBThey are really trying hard to extort money from you.
They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency. They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer). They threaten to serve you at home or at work. They tell you that if they serve you at work they need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work. They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID. None of which is true. Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them. Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else. They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”. Court documents are time sensitive and have to be served within a certain amount of time. Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there is actually a lawsuit that has been filed against you.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
