they called a doctor's office requesting my medical records!!!! Luckily the office called me b/c they did not have a release.

Left a voicemail message (on behalf of Aetna) requesting medical records for a physician we've never heard of, asking for a callback to confirm they have the right number for that doctor, and to get instructions on where to fax a written request for medical records.    I don't think this is a legitimate call.  Boiler room, she slurred her words, she didn't say the right things to make me think she knows how medical records are requested.  Also, a search of 855-874-1852 shows no legitimate company found anywhere on the Internet.  I think this is a fishing expedition.  We've now blocked this number.

Received a phone call requesting patient records. I called Aetna to verify if these people were authorized to collect information. These people are not legit.

Received a call from  "Sunshine"  from Episource requesting patient records as an auditor for Aetna insurance. They were unable to fax a release of records and infact, did not fax or mail any request as we asked them to. These people are not legit. Hang up on them if they call your office. When I told them I thought they were acting fraudulently, they stopped calling. December 2, 2016 Their new phone number is 844-848-1449

Our office has been contacted constantly by 424-359-3132 . They claim they are calling on behalf of Blue Shield California requesting a patient's record and asked us to call back at 855-874-1852. Suspected it was a scam. Message left here helps to clear that. Thanks

Jen from "Episource on behalf of Coventry" requesting records for a patient. She had the patients birthday but could not supply her address. When I asked what this was for she said it was for "proper ICD. 10 coding" and "risk assessment". The patient doesn't have Coventry as their insurance. Number showed up as 424-359-3132 and caller ID said Beverly Hills, CA. I did call Coventry and was told Episource is contracted to do this, however, they should have done so by letter.

I just received a call from a Beverly Hills number (424) 359-3132, and they left a message claiming they are  from "At the Source" and wants me to call a different number than the one that he placed the call from.  Here is a direct transcription:
"  Hi my name is Jerry, from 'at the source' and calling on behalf of blue shield of california.  I am requesting one medical record and we would like you to call office at 855-874-1852"  he then gives some weird reference number and didnt even cite the patient name of which he is requesting
I think this is a scam, because when i looked it up google, there are complaints regarding this number.  I normally get medical records via mail, not phone call.  In fact, medical records requests are paper form with all patient info etc. no matter who requests them.

Received a voice message from "Florence", who identifies as working for Episource on behalf of Aetna, requesting a medical record for a patient. Caller ID showed the incoming call as 424-359-3132. She asked that I return her call at 855-874-1852. She did not give any information about the patient in question, i.e. name, date of birth, etc. , just listed a reference number. Episource is a legitimate company that does risk management and chart retrieval for Aetna. I went to the Episource website and did not see either of these numbers listed there. I am a psychotherapist and see patients with Aetna . Until I receive written notification about a records request, I will not respond to calls of this nature because it is unclear whether it is a legitimate records audit or a scam. Under the law, a patient needs to be notified by the insurance company if an audit of their records is being conducted.

What was the outcome of this request please as we got a call from the same number requesting medical records?

I had the same experience as most of the presenters here. If they have your phone number, they should have your fax number if they are truly acting on behalf of Aetna/coventry. I decline to answer these and put them on "scam alert".

Episourse faxed us requesting medical records on behalf of Aetna. After talking to numerous Aetna representatives, Aetna said they had no pending
audits for us. Something about the request isn't correct..At least they need to supply signed medical records release from the patient.
