John Michaels is a complete JERK.   I hope he rots in hell.   They had my phone number in error.  I didn't know the person they were calling, I don't have bad debt.   When I called to talk with him, he was rude, condescending and treated me like I was in the wrong.   What a sleazebag.  I filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.  I urge all to do the same.

Someone called my cell phone today leaving a message that I had charges pending against me annd that I needed to call 855-883-9893 by 4:00pm. They stated that papers would be filed at my local jurisdiction, if they didn't hear back from be by four. The message stated that I should ask for a John Michaels. I called the number back to find out what the call was regarding, the person that answered the phone asked me for a case number, after telling him that I did not have a case number, he asked for my phone number. I gave him my phone number, he called out my name; I told him that I was the person that he was looking for, what is the call regarding? He then transferred me to someone named John Michaels. This John Michaels person stated that I defrauded a company called Everest cash in 2011. This company tried to attempt to collect money from me on several occasions and had failed attempt. So this company William Michaels & Associates supposedly bought the debt, now they have to take me to court. He told me that if we went to court it would cost me roughly around $6,000; if I could pay $1,853.83, this matter would not have to go to court. After telling him that I could not pay this amount of money, John Michaels transferred me to someone named Jim Wallace. This person told me that they would accept $740.00 from me. I told him that I didn't have the money and they needed to go ahead and file court papers. He told me that I would be served today. After I got off the phone with Jim Wallace, I looked the company up the Internet and came across different post stating that this company was a scam. I called the number back, I asked John Michaels for an PI number, he gave me a number 4349991, when I asked where was the company located, he told me Buffalo, New York; when I asked for the current address, he placed me on hold and never returned to the phone, after holding for thirty minutes, I hung up and called back. They went through the same process, after telling them who I was and asking for the address once again, he hung up on me.

Total scam operation.  A group of people calling themselves Michaela and Associates or some combination of Michaels and Williams and God knows what else has been going around threatening people with criminal prosecution for what amounts to civil debts.  Sometimes they say they're a law firm.  But it's nothing but an extortion ring.  Ignore them.  Being in debt is not a crime and you can't be arrested for ordinary civil debt.   Crimes are processed by local DAs, not some scammy debt collector.  Debt collectors have no powers of arrest and have no influence on the criminal justice system at all.

Fraudulent or Zombie Debt Collectors—Things to Know

If you have received a call stating:

    1. You have defrauded a financial institution
    2. You owe an unpaid payday loan
    3. You have a warrant due to an unpaid loan
    5. You will receive a court summons
    6.  Authorities are coming to arrest you
    7.  Anything similar to above,
     a.   Do not give them any information or verify any information for them
     b.   Tell them you know they are a scam operating illegally and that you are   filing a complaint with the  appropriate authorities
Call blocker is your best bet.
    * File a complaint with the FBI on their Internet Crime webpage     http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
    * File a complaint with the Attorney General for the state you live in

The more information and complaints there are, the better the chance of getting these criminals to stop (or at least reduce the frequency).

I am getting the same voice mails but they are not even saying who they are looking for. I do not return these calls. There has been no one at my house  or there would be something to show they had been there. They call my cell every day. Besides when they said they was at my house Friday I was home and no one knocked on my door.

I have received these type of calls for the last two months.  It's a scam, but it's still very annoying.  They stopped for awhile, and then I reported this type of call to the FTC.  Now they are calling again.   Who ever these people are -- they leave voice messages on our home phone and state that they have sent out process server to our home on such and such date, but the date they say they have sent someone -- we are home - and nobody shows up . . . .  They say we are non-compliant, and sound very threatening and act like we are really in trouble - but they never say what this is in regard to?. . My husband and I always pay our bills on time and have lived in the same house for 34 years so we know there are no debt collectors out there calling us.. . .  Don't call them back -- even if you do -- you can't reach them.  I did one time, because this was making me very mad to have these stupid voice messages on my home phone, several in one day.     I left a voice message one time and some guy called back and left me a voice message and said he was some type of "Inspector" and sounded like we were trouble legally . . . . this is all so dumb . . . . and very annoying.  Going to report them again to the FTC.   I hope the FTC can catch these peckerwoods!  :)

This outfit actually blocked my wife's lab top today saying to call 855-883-9893 in order to correct.  Could not close it down, rebooted but did not help.  PC Repair man wanted $100 to clear.

I was able to go to the far left at the bottom and click on the World Icon, then opened Windows Explorer where I was able to open Malwarebytes and run it.  Rebooted and cleared it.

Con Artist have tried to get into my Desktop a couple of times as well and I used the above.

If you have Malwarebytes do the above.  Hope this helps.

I just logged onto my laptop today..I haven't in atleast a month or two... it was so frustrating bcuz all I did was get continuous pop ups for protecting my computer and virus protection packages, etc. Then I got the same page blocking on my computer that you did. I almost called the numbee, but glad I just punched in the phone e number on my cell phone under Google.  All this info came up. I don't have the same thing as you, but I just wish I know his to stop the virus protection pop ups. It's constant!!

When web browsing, computer locked up with a message purporting to be from Microsoft, saying to call them at 1-855-883-9893 urgently to have it unlocked! An obvious scam so did not call, but was able to break free and restart my system. These scum seem to be into a number of different scams.

White pop up screen said my computer was hacked and that I needed to call this number. I called the number to see if it was fake and a man who barely spoke English wanted my information. He was very rude and I hung up. I called back and I told them that I work for Microsoft and that this is not the right number. He got very mad and told me that I have no purpose calling them then if I knew that it wasnt the number. SCAM.

They put fake security popups on websites, which cannot be closed without killing the tab.

My computer seemed to have been hacked. A message from "MICROSOFT" urged me to call right away. Before I knew it they were in my computer remotely and said there were *multiple* errors and security was at risk and to let them clean everything up. I found out later they forged an email from me saying that I give permission to pay them $699.99 from my checking account. I found out it was a scam and now this phone number is calling me and threatening legal action and htat a suit has been filed.   This has ruined three whole days of my life and this needs to STOP!!!
