- Dave T| 2 repliesSCAM - I have rec'd probably 25 texts and voice mails during the past 2 weeks from this number which claims to be Bank of America asking for me by name about an online checking account application. I have made no such application. When I returned the call, I got a message that my account cannot be located and they hang up. I called the regular BOA service number, they checked my accounts and found no application. They knew nothing about this phone number.
- Caller: Bank of America - NOT
- fraud attempt replies to Dave TI am experiencing the same situation. I went to a Bank of America branch and had them call the number for the Victims Assistance Unit, as I did not open any account on line. They did not find an application for me either.
- Phishing replies to Dave TI got one just yesterday with the same BOA claim. A call to BOA confirmed that no attempt was made to open an account in my name. I don't know what they could be searching for?
- Victim like you| 1 replyTo say that this phone number is from Bank Of America just because the robot that says: This is Bank of America calling for
( you name here ) is helping the scammers establish their phishing expedition to verify and gather information on you that will be compiled to eventually open an online checking account which BoA opens with little or no proof of who is filling out the information on line.
Once BoA allows an account to be opened in your name the simply allow that person to see any and all accounts at BoA that has your signature on. So if your children or parents have you added as a co-signer the scammer now can see all of the accounts and all of the information related to those other accounts.
BoA defends this policy by saying: We're only doing what the law allows.
Be VERY CAREFUL! Do not answer any of their questions over the phone. If you have any questions go into a branch, ask for a manager, tell them you think you are being set-up by scammers. Make it a policy not to reveal any personal information to anyone who call you and do not return calls to robots that call and ask you to call back.
I'm waiting for someone to show where these calls are coming from ( address ) and who set up the numbers. This is no small time operation.- Caller: S C A M!
- Almost a victimI make it a habit not to answer incoming calls from unknown numbers then Google to find great information from people like you all, thank you.
- danGot a call today from this number and was asked the same questions including the zip code which I entered. Afterward I called the bank of America number on my card and was told the number was fake. I hope by giving my zip code I didn't screw myself
- Caller: bank of America
- YetiSo there's been various attempts, the recent a new application with Bank of America. I'm posting with the hope that if someone gets a call or txt message from this # they'll do the research and come to this website. It does seem like a pretty big operation, and I've made a point to reach out to the fraud departments for the various claims IRS, BoA etc and talked to someone in that department. They claim to reach out to local authorities. However, I and a couple of friends, who've had this going for quite sometime within similar time periods are preparing to do something about it. But please if you get a call from this ID or similar scam, post and report it.
- Senior citizenReceived a call just like the ones below saying that they were responding to a recent "online checking account request." The call was from 866-568-5988 and they asked me to call back on 855-926-5096. I didn't call back because I thought it was bogus and googled it. Thanks to all for your posts!
- Caller: "Bank of America"
- elliemaeThanks for all your comments here. We've been receiving these calls and texts, too. I drove to a nearby Bank of America branch and they checked and there's no pending application. SCAM!

- victim of identity theftJust got a call and text message from the exact same numbers u mentioned here today. Looked up BOA contact info online. Called them and I was advised to contact their fraud department as these numbers are not associated with BOA at all. DO NOT ANSWER NOR CALL THESE NUMBERS!!! DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR INFO! IT'S A SCAM!
Place fraud alert on your credit reports! If you received a call or text from these numbers then more than likely your identity have already been stolen like ours. Impostors filed tax returns and used my husband and my info for both federal and state taxes. File a police report immediately!- Caller: claimed their from Bank of America
- Call type: Text message
- JohnGot the same call from that number twice. Let it go to voicemail.
Did not call back the number given. Called B of A directly and they did not have an application on file. This is a scam to fool people into giving out secure information. I put a freeze on my credit reports and a special code on my checking accounts. This seems to be getting worse.- Caller: Fake BofA
- Call type: Telemarketer
- bbReceived call/voicemail from 855 926 5096 saying they were Bank of America about my "checking account application." Had not applied for an acct. I called B of A's Customer Service 800 432 1000 (not #above). Bank of America told me this is phishing attempt - to get more information. Asked me to send emal to abuse@bankofamerica.com with information received. Said do not call this # back; it is not from Bank of America.
- Call type: Prank
- TexasHave received 3 voice mails stating the same as the other reports; automated voice stating they need information about our checking account application. The last message was different & stated, "we have been trying to reach...blah blah blah" I didn't think BOA would leave automated messages like that and there is no such customer service number. Never called it back.
- NebraskaI received both a call and a text message from this number alerting me I needed to contact B of A regarding my new account application. The troubling part is I did open a new online account with B of A the evening prior to my call/text. The text message was suspicious as I know B of A wouldn't have contacted me that way, so before calling back I decided to google the number and came across this thread. I plan to report this tomorrow, but I'm hoping the odds this was a coincidence are greater than I think! Thanks to all of these prior reports it was a huge help.
- Caller: Fake B of A
- Call type: Telemarketer
- T| 1 replySame as the others above: Text messages and voice mails from 8665685988 asking that I call back 8559265096. Probably just the same loser Indian scammers that have figured out that the accent makes the scam attempt laughable.
- Caller: NOT Bank of America
- Call type: Telemarketer
- M replies to TI receiver the same text message about a month ago, now my son is receiving them. He called Bank of America's actual number-they suggested he go to a local branch and inquire there.
- Georgia guyGot a call too from this 855 number. Punched in my zip code and later it was trying to connect to a person. I googled the number and found notes and hung up before the scammer answered.
Today got text msg from 707-56 number asking to call the same 855 number.
I've never applied for account at b of a and never would. Will certainly call their fraud dept to report this too
Let's see what they say about it.- Caller: Claiming to be B of A
- PI also received a phone call and text asking me to call this number because someone tried to open a Bank of America account in my name. When I called it asked for zip code so I hung up and looked here. I called Bank of America and it turned out someone did actually try to open a checking and savings account in my name but it was pending because address was wrong. So I suggest checking with Bank of America just in case.
- Caller: Claiming to be Bank of America
- Diane Chudley-MolinariCompany saying its Bank of America asks for zip code to verify new account just openef
- Caller: Bank of America
- SReceived text stating to call above number to verify new checking account with Bank of America. We have been a victim of ID theft over the last month and assume the worst that someone is trying to get more information - well thanks to your site we have another BAD GUY at least stopped at this attempt.
