These guys are still trying. They are pretty slick and I can see how people would fall into providing information. I received a phone call followed by a text asking me to call this number because someone tried to open a Bank of America account in my name. The phone call came in on 866-568-5988 and the text told be to call back on 855-926-5096. I did call the number and was prompted for a zip code to verify identity. Entered "0" to exit out to operator. I then entered a random number and was told it didn't match their information. A representative came on right away (I've never gotten through right away) and asked why I called. I told her i received the message about the account application and she replied and said she needed to transfer me to the fraud department. She never asked for any identifying information. She gave me a case reference number and another direct call phone number 866-231-5147. After I was transferred, the guy asked why I was calling. Again, no request for identifying information yet. I asked what bank he was with and he hesitated and answered Bank of America. I did not give any information but told him I wanted to call the number that was on my bank statement. I can see how people can get fooled into providing info. They are real nice on the phone. Be careful and warn others.

These phone calls/voicemails keep coming in on 866-568-5988 and the text (SMS) told me to call back on 855-926-5096 but what is odd is that it reads off my maiden name! I did call the number and was prompted for a zip code to verify identity. I entered the zip code, but it said that it couldn't find my information with that zip code. So I just hung up. This number calls 3-4 times per day, and at least 2 texts per day. I haven't noticed anything 'off' on my credit report. I will continue to monitor.

Never answer these numbers that you don't know. If they're legit, they'll leave a message but they never do. Then check here and, when it looks scammy, just block the caller on your cell phone and they won't call you again. They can't call you again.

I just got a Tex and a message was left saying to called 855-926-5096.  The message say, "that someone was opening a checking account under my name".  I called the number and the person asked for a case number.  I told her I had not listen to the entire message and hang up.  I called my Bank of America and left a message they have not yet call me back.  However, I type Bank of America and the phone number and a page came up saying it was not bank who call, and they are only trying to get information.

Been getting phone calls for almost two weeks now, but I never answer, got one today I answer and they said I did an on line application, which I knew I didn't so I hung up the phone, they then sent me a message to call BoA at the 855-926-5096
number.

I did start the process to open a Savings with BofA. During the application a warning this account will be verified  through the mail. Don't respond to any email or phone calls.
