- Mama call blocker| 1 replyThis was a valid call to me regarding possible fraud on my Credit Union card. The call came as I was shopping online at a reputable store at 7 pm. I had placed an order (over $100) and made a mistake, so I cancelled it quickly online, and then waited a few minutes and re-ordered the same thing. The phone rang (I didn't answer at first, but after hearing the message realized what was going on, that suspicious activity was taking place by their monitoring equipment) In addition, I'd placed a sizeable order a couple of days earlier at another reputable store, so my normally quiet credit card suddenly showed three large purchases that were suspect. I can understand the worry, though with getting such a call. Just glad that they're watching out for me.

- M replies to Bill in ClevelandThis just happened to me!
- Tygerkat replies to Mama call blockerAnd you looked up a known phone number why, exactly?
- JG| 3 repliesThis is a legitimate number. It appears to be a credit card service that our credit union uses. Just this month Ihave received 3 calls from this number and did not answer. A VM idendified our credit union, my name and the last 4 digits of the card, plus left a case number. Rather than return a call on this number I called the number on the back of my card. The credit union did verify there was unusual activity, asked for the case number and verified several charges. Even though I feel this number is legitimate I will still use the number from the card to verify.

- Tygerkat replies to JG| 2 repliesIf you already know who called you, why did you look up the phone number?
- Gordon replies to MaryExactly. This is a legitimate number for a contractor that does CC fraud monitoring for multiple banks.
- Chris replies to Mary| 9 repliesYes, legitimate. They knew what the last two purchases were and wanted to verify them as seemed suspicious. The banks use this for your protection.
- B-Edwards replies to Chris| 8 repliesWhat if... The number is being spoofed? Strong chance of that. Always best and safest to thank the call, do not confirm or offer too much info and then call your bank/cc issuer on a number you look up yourself.
- Tygerkat replies to B-Edwards| 7 repliesAmazing all these people who looked up a known phone number. Guess they were bored?
- EdwardThis was a legit call from my bank's fraud detection center. I wasn't planning on calling the number they left on my voicemail anyway, but thought I'd check to see if anyone was reporting fraud. I called the number on the back of my card and gave them the case number from the voicemail and they confirmed it was legitimate. I had just made an online purchase that charged from out of state so it was marked suspicious. Just remember to always call the number on your card.

- JG replies to Tygerkat| 1 replyWho said I knew who called me? When I saw the number, unfamiliar to me, and listened to their message, as a precaution I called the number on the back of my credit card rather than call an unfamiliar number.
- Tygerkat replies to JGYou said you knew when you posted. So you know who called you yet came to a phone number look-up site anyway.

- TinaGot a call from this number, they left a message saying that my credit card had been suspended due to possible fraudulent activity, and to call this number. I didn't return the call, but instead called the number on the back of my card because I didn't trust the call. However, the bank confirmed that there actually had been fraudulent activity and I'm now waiting to receive a new credit card. I told the person I spoke with about my concerns and he said that they are a fraud detection business and they work for numerous banks across the country.

- JSThis was a legitimate call, although I didn't recognize the number, thus the number search. It appears to be a credit card service that our credit union uses. There is a mixed bag of comments for this number, and other numbers, that contact people regarding possible fraud charges to credit cards. It is noted as a robocall - "Do Not Answer" but also as a legitimate call. We have had several calls from different numbers regarding fraudulent charges, they have all been OK, but I will still use the number on the CC rather than take the risk of phishing.- Caller: Royal Credit Union Fraud Detection

- JG replies to Tygerkat| 2 repliesI bet you've heard of phishing by very talented people. I think it is prudent to be cautious, especially when there is a simple way to do so, like calling the number on the care rather than returning a call to an unrecognized number.
