- Jomo KenyattaIs a scam
- Jomo Kenyatta| 1 replyComputer message said my computer will be disabled to prevent damage to Microsoft's network. I must call the number and talk to their representative, which implied it was from Microsoft.

- B-Edwards replies to Jomo KenyattaThe Pop-ups are an annoyance, it is making the call to the number you are given that is where the danger is. Scammers want you to call and let them connect to your computer, and things get bad really fast from there.
This is a tech help scam, delivered by a Pop-Up. Sometimes these Pop-ups are caused by a bit of malware that was installed on your computer by sites you visit or files you have downloaded from malicious websites.
There are lots of ways (and some free and safe programs) to clean out your computer, but you need to read up on these before you decide how you want to proceed. There are scammers that claim to do the cleaning but are actually installing more and worse malware. Never let someone sign-on you computer who claims they will fix it via Team Viewer and such.
You can search under the first line of the message you got or a more generic search like "remove Microsoft: Your Computer is Infected Pop-up".
If you are not sure or knowledgeable with this sort of thing, you should get help from someone who has experience or at a local brick and mortar computer shop.
In the Future - Get better Anti-Virus and Web Surfing protection and be careful what sites you visit and what you download. - Rowland JonasMicrosoft Network Scam. Call NOT from Microsoft. I could not understand "technician". I shut my computer down and brought it back up..........had to do this twice before "garbage" went away.
- Should Know BetterThe pop-up captured the computer screen and I feel for it. I called the number and it took three telephone clicks to connect to a female with a Indian accent, who was argumentative when asked if they were actually Microsoft. It wasn't until the third try to log into their system, did she state the phone was being recorded that I realized the thing was a scam. I was able to my computer system and reenter and check my McAfee security.
