Received a voicemail from unknown number:

"This is [operator name] with the [my county] County dispatch. This call is to notify the residence that two attempts will be made to issue documents for [a family member of mine]. Any changes that need to be made to the time, date, or location of delivery, contact issuing firm handling your case at 855-949-6334. Reference case number [redacted]. Failing to contact or comply with the issuing firm will result with legal proceedings to take place without your knowledge or participation"

The family member in question has not lived in this state for 10 years and has never shared my phone number. I called the police dept and sheriff's office to check and both suggested this is a scam – no record of the provided case number or the 855-949-6334 callback number.

Yup! Scam! They didn’t even care about privacy. My call was for my father. They told me details without his consent and authorization to speak to me.

Lady left voicemail asking my father to call the law firm. I called since it came through my number. The gentlemen’s name is Erick and is from a law firm in southern CA. He told me a lot of details without my fathers authorization to speak to me. He goes on about owing $4000 and can settle for $2000 but payment had to be made today or set up payment plan. Told him I needed documents to show where he is calling from and verification that small claims is made to local court. He said his secretary would email within the next 10 mins but never came through. The next day, my sister calls me telling me they called her too and that I was avoiding their emails and not cooperating as he wanted to help solve the problem. Total SCAM!!!

Whenever someone tells you that they are a "lawyer" or that they work for a lawyer or law firm, the first question you should ask is what state(s) they are registered in and their BAR number for that/those state(s).  Then go to that state and check them out, contact them directly using the information in the state registration, as these crooks have been known to research real law firm names and attorney names and impersonate them.

One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.  They often call people that have never even been associated with you because they get erroneous information off of the internet.

They will use the words “Mediator”, “Arbitrator”, “Law Office” or claim that they are a “Lawyer or Paralegal” to make you believe that they are something other than a debt collector want-a-be and that they don’t have to follow Federal and State collection laws, even though they do have to follow those laws.  They also tell you that if you fail to call them back you are "waiving your right to council" or that “the case will proceed without you” which is pretty much nothing but hogwash.  They tell you that they need a “statement” from you regarding the complaint and if you don’t call back they “wish you good luck as things unfold”. They use the phrase “consider yourself notified/served” or “govern yourself accordingly” a lot, something they should do themselves.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I got a message on my voice mail about a summons from LA County Court from a so-called process server dispatcher.  Guess I won't be showing up to court!  Too busy at work.  Has to be a scam.  Courts don't call people up.  They send official summons by mail with their seal stamped.

Got a voice mail saying I have a summons from LA County Court and to call the number to talk to the law firm handling my case!  Fancy That!   It's a scam because the courts send official summons in the mail.

Got a follow-up voicemail, this time with a different county named. Here's the script:

"This is [operator name] with the [another county] dispatch services. This call is to notify the residence that there has been a failure to dispatch legal documents for [family member]. At this time, the law firm would like to go ahead and move forward with this case. Phone number to call is 855-949-6334, reference case number [redacted]. This matter does require your immediate attention at this time."

What goes around comes around. Don't act surprised when your life falls apart, [operator name] :)

The person identified himself as "David Cooper" and said all the same things that are listed here. When I actually answered the phone one time they kept asking me if I knew the person they were trying to serve and is his birthday was _____. I said no and that they had the wrong person. Then this # continued to call left a voicemail message to call this #. When I called and asked who they were, the man said, "Do you even know who you're calling?" When I said, "no", he said, "Well, why would you ask such a rude question?" I explained that he had called my # 5 times, that I had answered and explained they have the wrong person, and he just hung up.

They say they are with Gray Law. They will not send me any papers “they already have”about a debt from 10 years ago but need paid over the phone or they are taking me to court. They have also been calling family members saying I owe money and have been missing my court dates🤷🏻‍♀️

Please see BigA's post above if you have any doubts about this being a crook pretending to be a debt collector.  If they have been calling family members, you may need to take some steps to stop the calls and harassment.  Here is a link to some info that might be of some help - or at lease give you an idea of what your rights are.
    https://800notes.com/arts/harassing-calls-fro ... ou-need-to-know

When you asking them for their location and mail address, and showing that you are aware of your rights, that often will stop them.  Since there is no debt and convincing you might take some time, they will just move along to new victim.  BigA's post along with that link will help you fight these jerks.  Post back if you have questions.

    Momma didn't raise no fool!
Received voicemail from the same people that have been calling me for weeks trying to scam money.  Called back and i am not surprised its a different number but the same person Dan Walker from a so called Grey lawfirm which does not exist as i have search. I told him do not have his scammers or him ever call me again. Of course he got nasty and told me if he wants to argue he has a wife. Hmmm not surprise since they are pretending to be someone they are not. I told to never ever call my phone and I hung up. So if you get any calls from these people believe me they are scammers no law firm or process servers ever called anyone be aware
