- Ronnie in FLI've got a message from 855-969-8587 today. Same story but with one exception - the person they are looking for has been dead for over 2 years! I think I'll just ignore them.
- Caller: no name given
- Call type: Debt collector
- Kat in MotownThese people have been calling my parents for 2 years and try to tell my dad that I'm going to jail etc. I haven't had a checking account in almost 10 years ....these people are scammers
- Call type: Debt collector
- d replies to From PennsylvaniaFake address...is actually a UPS store.
- D replies to Mike in MD| 1 reply; You are right, but when you ask them to stop contacting you, or send papers in the mail..they have to by law.
- Mike in MD replies to Not us| 3 repliesThere is no such thing as a statute of limitations on collecting, ONLY on using the courts to force payment. They can legally contact you and request you pay the debt so long as they abide by the FDCPA even if the statute of limitations has passed.
Here is a link to the FTC website where they explain what happens with time barred debts.
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0117-time-barred-debts - Mike in MD replies to DTrue and I believe that is covered in the link I provided.
- AdrianaI just got a call from this number. I have no issues with the law and can see no reason for contacting me. The ID number listed when they called me is 302-444-8304 but I have to call back to 855-969-8587
- Chris replies to PhyllisThey are scammers...insist that they MAIL (not fax) you a written statement of the debt. They will refuse and give you reasons why they can't but don't believe those things...legitimate companies will mail you these things (it's the law)...they can't threaten you with any criminal action (but they will) hoping to catch someone who does not know their rights...Anyway, do NOT give them any money or additional info on you...tell them they can go ahead and send you papers or send the sheriff out or what have (which is illegal for them to say they will do but they will it anyway)...just tell them you look forward to receiving the papers or chatting with the sheriff or what have you...it gets under their skin because they don't like it when they can't scam someone out of money...and don't just take my word on it look up the laws on consumer rights and debt collection...call an attorney and give them this number and they will tell you these people are scammers...I had 2 attorneys and the FTC tell me this about these people...they may not even be located in the USA though they don't sound like they have an accent so they could be just working out of a basement somewhere in the country
- chris replies to Illinois| 1 replyYou are right it is a scam...
- mess replies to Mike in MDThey can call you and send letters and that is it...they cannot threaten to take you to court, they cannot mislead someone in believing they are law enforcement or that they can have law enforcement involved and you arrested...they are not litigators, they are not investigators...they are scammers...consumer debt attorney and they'll tell you that as they have told me that...the FTC can't locate them as of yet but when they do they will shut them down...

- D replies to Mike in MD| 2 repliesYou are right but if you send a cease and desist letter to the collection company to stop calling and contacting you they must stop. Simple!!
- Melissa M.| 1 replyA lady named Nicole Payne called me and stated I had a fraudulent check with Advance America from 2006. I have not used them and they would not send me anything in the mail. I found out this is completely BULL. DO NOT GIVE THESE PPL ANY INFO! They try to scare you by saying all sorts of stuff like you can't talk to the lawyers and they don't want other ppl to get your personal info so they won't mail it to you. Really? ??

- TredAdvance America, Hialeah Fl, shows a disconnected number but maybe they found this one. Shows 3 locations and a F rated BBB report and failure to respond to complaints. http://www.bbb.org/south-east-florida/busines ... eah-fl-11012585# but then a search of Cash Advance America shows an advance payday loan scam Chicago style http://www.bbb.org/chicago/business-reviews/a ... ago-il-88588873# and alternate name http://www.bbb.org/tulsa/business-reviews/pay ... eau-ok-38044657 and theres more with different plays on name, and none of them are professional or ethical. You can also search 800notes and there are pages of numbers related.

- mess replies to DThe problem is they won't allow you to send them anything because they won't give out their address and they don't because they are scammers...they locate uncollected SOL debt or just make up debt and then try to see if people will pay...let them call you and waste their time or when they do answer and tell them to send you papers in the mail (don't give them any info about you though...they should have it, if they don't that's on them)...they break the FTC codes because they have no intent of being located...they don't have a website and the business shows up nowhere...and call a consumer debt attorney and they will tell you this...they won't charge you...
- mess replies to Melissa M.They crack me up...they told me, they don't give out the address because it is for the attorney's safety...Uhhh yeah, I believe you; I totally believe you...keep talking...
- mess replies to PhyllisThey are lying...don't believe me, they have less than a week to mail you info out about the debt when they start trying to collect...they won't give you an address because they don't want to be located...they are definitely breaking pretty much every FTC law and possibly some criminal laws like theft by deception or fraud or impersonating law enforcement and in some cases terroristic threats...they do these things because they are scammers...they don't even own the debt...ask them to prove them own it by sending proof of ownership of the debt...
- mess replies to Mike in MDThey are not in compliance...most likely they don't even know the consumer laws nor do they care...they are scammers/ crooks/criminals (all apply).
- TMYes, I received this call yesterday. same story as others. I goggled the number and found this site. When I returned the call at the number they gave, same as above complaints, the person said he was Jon Hickey and when I asked him who he was he said the IRS. Would not talk to me further, unless I gave then my name. Of course I did not. thanks you all.
- avsdragonI think they got their phone list from Wells Fargo. I got a call today from this number and it showed 302-444-8304 as well as 855 969 8587. It went to vm and a computer left the same message as you guys have stated. So I called it back to F*** with them and the lady kept telling me that Wells Fargo has released an affidavit and that they are completely with in the law. I started laughing and then laid into the poor girl. I think she started crying. LOL Anyway they call me about once a year and its amazing how many times the story has changed. They even tried to get me to pay for a dept when i was 15 years old. LOL I didn't even knew I had checks back then. Anyway Total Scam. BEWARE.
