We got a call from this number today at 1:38 pm and didn't answer. The caller ID was UNKNOWN NAME. No voice mail message was left. When I called back (our caller ID is hidden by default on outgoing calls) I heard a recording which began with "Hello" and didn't continue until I replied. This time I replied in Spanish, and the recording continued. It wouldn't have mattered what language I spoke or even what I said. It's a very sophisticated system which is apparently intended to make the caller believe he or she is talking to a live person. The speaker gives his name and says he is calling for the American Veterans Support Foundation. This is a new number for the same scam and will be added to our call blocker. They certainly must get a lot of money to be able to afford such  a system.

Same as 857-209-2708. Get a real job and stop calling late at night and on weekends. Thank you DNC list for working so hard to get these scammers .

Not sure why I signed up on the do not call list when I constantly receive calls from telemarketers--what's the point?

The 'point' of the DNC list is LEGITIMATE companies can no longer 'cold call' you without your WRITTEN permission.  Unfortunately, it does not stop CRIMINALS like this caller who attempt to get around the DNC rules by exploiting one of the THREE 'exceptions' to the rules: Charities, Surveys/Polls, and Political calls.

This one is obviously exploiting the 'Charity' option, even though its UNLIKELY that MUCH of the 'donations' or contributions go to any real charity.

This call came on on a SUNDAY at 5:15PM; SUNDAY DINNER TIME.  We let it go to ans. machine KNOWING from the '857' area code that it is likely SPAM and A LIE. It is.  There is NO SUCH LEGITIMATE VETERAN'S CHARITY by this name.

Suspect this call/caller (CRIMINAL) is connected to the OTHER SPAM CALL we got today (SUNDAY of THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY weekend) from 607-203-5573 from "A.F.P.O." (claiming to be connected to a police organization) but ALSO calling OTHERS using the CID of "A.V.F." implying a Veteran's connection.

BOTH ARE FRAUD.  There are **NO** such LEGITIMATE charities by these names.  Check it out for yourself at:

This call came is as "OUT-OF-AREA" with NO name even 'offered.'

The only problem with the DNC list is that so many of those who sign up for it,   without reading what it's actual purpose is,  don't have a clue how it works.

Got this call today FOUR minutes before a  call from DANA FARBER CANCER INSTITUTE, from a 617#  (ALSO BOSTON/BROOKLINE) confirming an appt.  HOPE these calls are not connected.  They have NO BUSINESS calling without ID'ing themselves nor leaving a message, AND they BETTER NOT be TELEMARKETING for FUNDRAISING, on TOP OF what I PAY IN MEDICAL BILLS.  That's INAPPROPRIATE and I will RAISE A STINK if that is the case.

They called again today, December 6, at 5:30 pm. As I wrote on November 30, the number has been added to our call blocker. As Annoyed in Mass wrote, this is the same as 857–209–2708, which previously had been added to our call blocker.

It got  to be the BIG SHOTS of Massachusetts people doing this!

none.  I am convinced that our numbers are sold by the FCC or a clandestine arm of the dept.

the phone rings. I ignore it. The End.

Caller ID says "Cambridge, MA". I called the number and got a recording telling me "The phone number is disconnected or is not in service".

I just got a brand new cell number and almost immediately this call came in.  No voicemail left.  I immediately put them in the rejected list so my cell phone will not ring if they call again.  Too bad regular phones don't have this unlimited option.

THe number calls me up to 5 times a day never leaves a message and when you answer the call no one is on the other end

this is a harrassment call from goverment or law enforcement agency trying to get you to answer to access you phone they are a bunch of weirdos went on vacation for a week recieved no calls 1st day back in area started recieving calls again most likely is neighbor who is a watcher hired by the agency infragard these people make up stories to keep their checks coming in. calls 3 to 4 times a day .

Um before I run and make a tin foil hat, do you have any evidence of this?

Call my unlisted cell all the time. Nincompoops.
BTW, can always use SKYPE to call these unknown phone numbers back to determine who they are and they won't be able to trace it. heh heh
