I got a call from this number (it orginally came up as no caller id) they called left a vm basically saying they are from a company called legal document services and they will be delivering documents to my residence and if I don't want they sent to my work then I need to call the number back. At first I was a little freaked out, but when I started to think about it the message made zero sense. First off why would they call and warn me? And second, at the end of the message they said that the voice message is notification of receipt. How can they be sure who got the message? I googled the number and also the company name and was unable to find any information or any information on the company. Plus I live in Nevada and this was a call from San Diego. I was wondering if anyone else had gotten a call like this?

I revieced another call from this number this morning. I'm going to add that in the original call on Friday I was told I was going to be served with legal documents yesterday, I was home all day and no one showed up at my house. This morning the call I received (also sent to vm) stated that I was suppose to be in court yesterday morning at 0800 and that I did not show... how can I be in court if I was suppose to be "served" after that time? Anyway, I called the number back and the person answering said hello, how may I help you. With no business name or greeting. I asked what company she works for and she said she can't help me unless they have a case number, so I asked again what sort of company they work for and she stated that the company is a law firm called Joseph Parker and associates and that they are out of San Diego, Ca. I asked what sort of business they do and she stated that she has to transfer me. So basically she refused to give me any company information at all (because it's a fake/scammer company).

Lots of people have gotten the same call.

Criminals masquerading as debt collectors attempt to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged (they use the bad check or hot check claim a lot) and go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished without actually being sued or going to court, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.  They will use the words “Mediator”, “Arbitrator”, or “Law Office” to make you believe that they are something other than a debt collector want-a-be and that they don’t have to follow Federal and State collection laws.  They do have to follow those laws, but they won’t.  They mention that they have received a Fax document, to create the sense of urgency.  They also tell you that if you fail to call them back you are "waiving your right to council", which is pretty much nothing but hogwash.  They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.
