- CG| 2 repliesSuspected a scammer right out of the gate so played along for awhile. He wanted me to go to my computer which I wasn't about to do.
I asked him to give me his name and he replied "George Cook"; which of course is a very common East Indian name. I asked him for a Microsoft email address which of course he was "not allowed" to provide. I asked how he got my phone number and provided an answer that was clearly a lie.
The icing on the cake was when I asked for his phone number and he gave me only 9 of 10 required digits.
First he said he was calling from Canada and then Saint Albert Texas.
I'm sure this individual is doing what he feels he must to survive but preying on the elderly, or anyone else in this fashion is extremely low.- Caller: "Microsoft Corp"

- Liam replies to CGI get this type of call on a regular basis and most of the time I ignore those long distance calls.
Today, I just felt like having a little fun, answered the phone and listened to him for a short while before asking where he was calling from. When he said the head office was in Austin TX., I told him I used to live in Austin, worked for the same company and would call people and try to scam them. I asked if he was doing the same thing.
He was persistent and asked me a technical question then said I lied to him.
Time for Plan B: I told him it was an Apple product I had; at that stage, he hung up on me. lol - Stephane| 3 repliesReceived the call Dec 10, at 12h15
The first guy told me that he worked from Microsoft and that my PC was sending error msg to Microsoft, that there was a virus that was slowly eating my data on my disk (bla bla) and it was important that I do what his tech will tell me. I was very sceptical all the time.. I ask which version of software that I have he told me Windows 8 (I have vista)....but was not sure. He was telling me that they keep receiving info from my CLS ID. I asked what CLS ID stand for. He told me "Computer License Software ID", I asked what was registered to this ID, he game me the name "L.familyName", which is strange because that is the Name of my Dad and it is me his son who installed this old computer and he never used it. So I would have never registered it under his name. Then he gave me our phone number in Quebec.....
He did transfer me to his Master tech, name "Marc Parker", and his phone number was 512 333 1327 (I asked for it). He got me to issue some command on my old vista PC... Open DOS window and type "assoc", then at the end of the output there is a line that looks like this:
.zfsendtotarget=CLSID\{888DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062}
He then told me that my CLS-ID was 888DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062, Then I said OK.
Then the next command was "eventvwer", which result in nothing
Then the line got cut.
I check the area code 512 and 859 before calling and they are listed in the US... OK
I tied to call "Mark" at 512-333-1327 and It never answer, the second time it got hang-up. So this number must be a real one.
I tried to call 859-854-9297, which ended it up in a voice recording telling me that his number had been disconnected...
I check on 3 other PC that I have and they ALL have this CLSID at the end.... OK I got scam
Now the question, is my PC realy infected with a virus... I will run a scan
or was I transfert to a long distance number that I have to pay the fee??? .. I will call my telephone comapany.- Caller: 859-854-9297
- Freeno replies to StephaneIt's a real number OK, but doesn't belong to these scammers. Due to the simplistic way caller ID works, callers using VoIP can set the phone number to anything they want. Usually they pick numbers local to their victims to lower suspicion.
I had a call this morning from a guy calling himself "Steven" with a heavy Asian accent and said he was calling me from the technical department of windows. I interrupted him and said "You're a liar" ... he instantly laid on me a string of swear words worse than the f bomb and hung up. - Y ChanSome guy with East Indian accent calling me telling me my computer was infected. Without going further I hung up on him. I do not think that Apple or Microsoft (or any computer manufacturers) would provide such "good" services to call you personally when your computer is not working well.

- Sharon| 1 replyReceived a call supposedly from Windows (Heavy East Indian accent) very hard to understand. The area code is from somewhere in Kentucky and he is telling me that there are some troublesome downloads on my computer which they will fix for me. I told him that is impossible and hung up-. He had the nerve to call back and I asked him how he was going to fix this problem for me. "Go to your computor " to which I replied not likely and hung up. These guys must think we are all stupid!!

- JaneCaller ID said Kentucky. Guy with Indian accent says he's from Microsoft in Texas. I say "nope, Kentucky". He says "well our head office is in Texas". So I am already starting to piss him off, because I clearly am not buying into this. Same story about computer sending messages to Microsoft that it has picked up some malware, blah blah, and was I in front of my computer? I said "sure am....in front of my Apple Mac". He says "is it on, do you have windows running?" or something like that. I said "DUDE ....I have a MAC!" He says "I am just kidding with you, you [***]". I said "get a real job". Not sure he heard me. Yup, sounds like terrific "customer service" from "Microsoft" to me!

- TroyJust got the tech scam call from this number. Claimed he was calling from Microsoft and that my machine gave them the virus flag. I told him that I knew he was full of crap. He quickly hung up.
- Richard replies to Greg BThe Diaper wrapped around his head was to tight and squeezing the crap out of his brain.
Tell him to hop and the first boat and cross into shark infested waters. It's [***] feeding time. - John replies to StephaneI would think if your PC was infected you would know it. Besides people don't phone someone to tell them their PC is infected.
Only people that have blonde moments fall for this scam. - Richard replies to SharonIt's those dang diapers they wear around their head. They got them to tight and it's squeezing the crap out of their head.
- BrittneyAsked me if I was Miss K. I said excuse me? he says are you the family member, I said the family memeber of who lol then told him he had the wrong number and hung up.
- Caller: the scammers are out of control
- Deb replies to Greg BReceived the same call. Stumped him when i asked him what my ip address was. He said i would have to give to him. I advised that unless he had my address he would not know there was something wrong. Stumped him for a minute then he asked for my ip address again and i said that he needs to give me my ip address as hes the one who said there was something wrong. He told me to f off and hung up. Too funny.
