Since the Telephone Companies knowingly allows these Scam calls,
could there be a Class Action suit filed against the Telephone Companies
for contributing to a crime??

Called on 3/8/16 at 7:20 PM.  Caller ID showed Haines City, Florida.  Left no message.

Don't answer my phone anymore. They didn't leave a message-automatic block list. [***] them and the phone company.

Scam  -  Scam  -  Scam  -  operator is just trying to phish information from you in order to steal your information for identity theft & to steal your money.  Do not give them any information.

Sometimes I answer the phone and don't say anything. If it's a robocall, it normally disconnects. If it's a person, they are like 'hello?' :D

Caller ID said INJUREDAVF. Having just received a call from a previous scammer at 623-745-7021 called Medical Center, I answered and said, "You've gotta be nuts!" and hung up. Now blocked.

do they REALLY think I'm going to answer my phone when "injuredavf" calls? Idiots!!!! Dang dumb idiots!! scam for sure.

Just get a busy signal, tried calling it back, just get a busy signal.

Good comments, but consider the phone company's position.  Most of them will block calls for you, but for a monthly fee.  Now reconsider the phone company's position.  My phone company will block 5 for free, but only for 90 days.  If you want longer, its $5 a month, although they will now give you 10 numbers to block.  5 or 10 or what ever, its worthless because there are millions of potential scam numbers.

However, my phone company is now offering a new service, for a $30 one time fee, they intercept all calls with a recording requiring the called to press "1" to continue.  Does it work?  It does for me.  We have gone from 4-7 spam calls per day to -zero- for the past 2 months.  So, ya, this seems to work.  They also let you enter up to 25 approved callers, who then do not get the call intercepted with the message.

Might be worth asking your phone company about it because they are not going out of their way to tell their customers about this.  Oh, this is for land lines only.  Wish Verizon would do that for my cell phone, but they do not.

The concept that the government cannot block the majority of these spammers for us just doesn't make sense.  We cannot do it ourselves because of the massive numbers which spammers can use.  Forget the phone company doing this for us.  These calls today are all VOIP calls, so they are going through servers not directly controlled by the phone companies.  If Congress wanted to, they could set up an agency to block these calls.  Sure, it would be up to us to report them, and likely a procedure would have to be in place that would required a minimum number of those called reporting the spam number before it would be blocked.  It would probably slow down these calls dramatically.  So why doesn't Congress do this?  Really good question.  Congress knows of the problem, they get the calls too.  Technically, this would not be difficult to implement.

The above is almost totally wrong. The VOIP calls go through many servers before reaching the final recipient. To trace the call you need to subpoena the owner of each server to see their logs; first you get your service provider to give you the IP address of the server it received it from. Then you subpoena the owner of that server, get their logs and see where they received it from. And so on, step by step until you reach the originator. It can take months (and lots of money) just to trace one call – if the original caller is still using the same phone service, which is unlikely. If the call originated from outside the country (or was routed through servers outside the country) it may be impossible.
