They state that they are calling from ACS in an attempt to collect a debt...and give a case # stating that if you do not make a payment or set up some type of payment plan that the case will be sent to court, but before that they will be at your door on the following day of the phone call with a subpeona however, they are on the East Coast ie Buffalo, NY....I myself reside in Houston, TX

They called my ex-MIL today (I've been divorced 16 years), used my new married name, and told her that they had some hot checks I needed to take care of or they were going to come pick me up. That I needed to call them by 10:30 am tomorrow to take care of them.

I didn't even know people still wrote checks. All my stuff is direct deposited and I use my debit card to pay for things. Been that way for YEARS.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to threaten to 'pick someone up' over non-existent hot checks, so am debating on calling them tomorrow and telling them I'm reporting them.

So I get this call from this number from a gal named Jeanna asking for me from a married name I went by................well let's just say.  I have been divorced two times since then and now go by my maiden name.

I told her I was not in, and this was her daughter and could I take a message for my mom. I knew something was strange just by her asking for me by a name I went by over 18 years ago.  She went on to tell my daughter (Me) that I had committed a crime and they were from the district court and were coming to arrest me if I did not call them back by the end of the day.  

So....I am a Court Appointed Child Advocate for the state and the county I live in.  Number one, it is illegal to discuss private information with anyone other than the person they are collecting a dept from.  ie: the whole privacy notice that is read to you by professionals.  And number two, this is a complete form of child abuse had my daughter really been the one to answer the phone. Yes, telling a child we are from the district court and we are going to come and arrest your mommy......

So my daughter (Me) asked to take a message.  You know because she's terrified that (Me) her mommy is going to be ripped out of the house by the police that her, her little brother and I live in, to be thrown in jail for a crime.  Her little mind starts spinning.  Where will I live?   Who will take care of me and my little brother?  Did our mommy kill someone?  Is she really robbing banks when she leaves for the store?  Oh my God!!!!!! I was kid napped as a baby and now their going to take me away to....I don't know, maybe to Florida and give me back to people I've never met, and then throw the only mommy and parent I have in jail !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny [***].  Then when I asked what's s the address of the courthouse so my mom, (you guest it, Me again) she gave me some bogus address.  I told her that my mom (Me) is always at the courthouse so she could go in and talk to them but that's not the right address.  I need the right address I demanded, so she can fix this.  She told me......The district court.  What county. I asked?  And then................Oops the word Florida slipped out of her mouth. She was so flustered by then she got mad, told me she didn't have to give me that information and then hung up on her. (Me)

How many of you have had a collection agent hang up on you?  Not that I get many calls from collectors but I know for a fact.  They would rather stay on the phone and tell you what a low life you are just for the fun of it.  My very good friend is a collector and most of them have the worst credit in the world.  It's obvious. Just look at their career choice is. They make minimum wage..

So my advice is. Just mess with them and say your not in and you will take a message.  Then ask a lot of questions you know they don't know because they are in a completely different state.
