Called my home number regarding a person of my acquaintence (who i have had no contact for 5 years)  saying that they were from the processing dept. And that there were 2 charges against him,  he had the right to contact the client directly to resolve the problem but if he did not, he would be forfieting that right. They will be pursuing him at his address and place of employment unless he makes contact with them immediately.  Ended their message with "good luck".

Also calling from 855-849-1173 using CSC limited.  And variations.   See also the call-back number  888-587-7403
Which is on 800notes.   Threats of law enforcement and so forth.  Total scam. Ignore and block.

    In any event,

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

    1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
    2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
    3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a  violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.)  The same goes for endless telephone harassment

Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question.  As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes.  The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question.  Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else.  So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you.  Let the FTC sort it out.

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.  Tell 'em  no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.

You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking).   the only thing they understand.

Had a message on my answering machine last night (yes, I still use a land-line).  This guy was looking for my mom, who doesn't live with me, and said there were 2 charges against her and they would go to her place of work (she is very disabled and retired) or home to find her.  Not sure how they got my number.

Recorded message left on my answering machine for someone allegedly named "Michael S...." (not me or anyone I know), therefore invading that person's privacy if he is a real person.  The goober on the recording then claimed to be from the "processing division" of an unnamed company or agency and said that "I will be actively pursuing you...".

I called the # back, lady said, "this is Sharon". I said, "I continue to get calls from this number, who is this?" She rustled around then said, "I'll remove the number, good bye". I said, "excuse me, who is this!" Again she said, "I will remove the number!" and hung up! Call Sharon and waste her time!

I has a missed call from this number. They left a VM for my mom, it was a male, possibly African American, who sounded scripted but not very robotic, saying that she has 2 charges against her, and they will come to her house and job (she’s been on disability for over 10 years now) to find her and apprehend her. It said she can contact the client herself, and they spoke in a threatening tone and manner. I was so concerned that I called my mom to ask who it was, and she said she doesn’t know who it is and they’ve been calling her too or calling other family members for her. This must be illegal.! I called the number back and first it rang as normal and went to a VM. I called again and it said the Verizon Wireless customer is unavailable. THIS IS SPAM.!!!!! Yet very threatening and harassing. They ended the message with “Good Luck”.
