They keep calling. I don't owe anyone money and they need to leave me alone.

I received a message "this is in accordance with state law, we have a claim in either your name or social security number." I called back they didn't identify who they were. But they did have the name of the woman who used to have my number. I think it is a bill collection agency.

When I asked they said they wanted to collect for a payday loan I had in 2011. This is not true, although I did have a loan it was in a bankruptcy. They then argue that they will send this to "the top" and arrest me. Its A SCAM. One way to tell if these places are scrams and if they can REALLY do anything to you is ask them to mail proof of whatever it is to you home address. They WILL NOT mail anything try to get out of it by saying stuff like "we are not a billing agency". It is your right and a law that "bill collectors" of any sort provide proof in writing if you ask for it. They will refuse to provide you a letter in the mail but will want to email you. Again if this was legitimate they would be able to mail something.

Calls asking for a Tawanda Grant. Female saying that there is a claim in her name and she should call back or have her lawyer call or they will move forward with the claim against her.  Left number of 866-206-6601, x 408.. The caller ID's number is 754-205-3123. When i call that number it says its not in service. I called the 866 number and it doesn't state the company name just to leave a message and they will return the call.

Don't answer, don't waste your time. They're scammers. They'll tell you that they have a collection under your name and social, they'll threaten you with legal action, but they won't tell you who they are. I decided to call them back repeatedly, and their identity finally came out after I evidently bothered them enough.

I have gotten several calls from these scammers.Some of the calls inform me I,ve won a cash prize.Others say that I am in legal perral.Each time it is the very same voice.They are quite brazen in their attemp to extort money or information.When the say I have won a prize all I need to do is send money to them to "start the process" to recieve the award.Phoney Baloney crooks that should be investigated if yo ask me.

Been called a few times by this number, each time they provide a tiny little bit of (outdated) personal info and then try to stick you with a debt you obviously never incurred. When you demand it in writing, it's like their brains melt down and that's when they get combative. They're pretty fun to harass, they get upset and insulting so fast, so if that's your thing, enjoy. None of them are very smart people.

I just got a call from this number describing some kind of legal issue connected to my social security number, then they forwarded me to another number, which rang but was never answered. Based on the previous posts about this number, I think it's safe to assume the callers intentions are obviously malicious.

Another scammer to contend with.:( I received a voice mail, they have a file with my social security number, and blah blah blah. The guy said he was from NCRCS, and his name was Mike Mason.  I'm grateful for posts from other victims, so we can easily verify scams.  Don't forget to put your name on the do not call registry.

Received a garbled voicemail from this number at my office mentioning a claim number. I was in the middle of a conference call and this number (though coming up as anonymous) tried to cut in several times in a matter of ten minutes. Received a voice mail from my daughter that these jokers called her at work and told her that they had to speak to me immediately and that she should communicate that to me. Returned the call and received a "hello." i thought maybe I dialed the wrong number, so I hung up and called the number again. Again, a "hello." No name, nothing. Just "hello". I proceeded to mention I was returning a call from extension 406. When the joker on the other end hesitated, I asked him why he answered the phone the way he did if it was a legitimate business. That caught him off guard I and proceeded to harass the harasser big time. I plan on calling continually over the next several days and blaring loud music or anything else annoying into the phone.

Recieved a call from Mike Mason at NCPS. They claimed i owed over 1000 for a payday loan in 2011.  I called back asking for the debt in writing but told me it would take a few days to send a copy to my email.  I called several times and each time the name of the company changed.

They said I owed a payday loan from 2010. I told them I didn't know the company the were "representing" and per NC Attorney General's office they are required to send proof by US Mail. The rep said oh it isn't us, we are just trying to collect for them. Then he said they are looking to put an attachment on my taxes and I informed him REALLY quick that that practice was not legal and this wasn't my first rodeo. He was not pushy at all after that because he knew he ran out of lies!

You missed an important point that should have been the first one you mentioned to this Scammer. Payday loans are NOT legal in the state of North Carolina.

The requirement to send a letter is a Federal law and is etched in stone.  No one can touch your taxes with the exception of the IRS for back taxes owed, student loans, or court ordered payments.

This is a common ploy by criminals masquerading as debt collectors who are attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this,  all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your work place, friends, or relatives repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying.  They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

someone named mike mason keeps calling my phone any idea on how to get him to quit calling...saying he's with ncps or something its annoying me and my husband SMH

Automated message from Mike Mason left on an office phone line. It was a very intimidating message not addressed to anyone...Just to "call me as soon as possible as there are legal proceedings in process against my social security number" He left the 866 number and stated to call back or he will tell his client to proceed with legal action. SCAM!

This is a scam. Dont call them back and waste your time.

they just called my work, and no name just the same message as the previous message above..its scam. these people need a life..

Got a very intimidating recorded call to start with. Glad to have all the comments so I was prepared when I called back. The guy who answered asked my name.I said I wasn't going to give him my name and asked HIS name.  He said his name was Joe Davis' . Because of this website info (knowing in advance it was a scam) I was able to reply immediately "Yea, right. Like that's your real name." .... kind of throwing a curve at him right away.  He said he was from NCRS or NCRPS. Told him I had already knew this was a scam and that I didn't owe money anywhere and (before he even tried) told him by law he needed to mail me information, that he couldn't collect any debts by garnishing my wages, etc.    He got a bit uptight when I went on to say they needed to take me off their call list ..... basically I hardly let him talk.   He eventually got frustrated and hug up.
