Just missed a call from this number

I had an issue with Waste Mgmt regarding a container that was way too big for me.  First they sent the huge one and then they sent one that was useless.  This company has figured out a way to go directly into your voice mail without talking to a live person, even though I answered the call.  The voice mail light does not light up when they do this.  Even though there was a credit pending on my account they kept calling regarding my account and threatening to cancel my service.  I don't believe many people at this company actually read the notes on customer accounts.  I was in the right and kept all the back-up.  My account has been reinstated (I hope).  If they still have a problem then I will go to the dump.  No brainer - dump trip every 3-4 weeks $25.00 vs Waste Management bill $95.00 per month.

Turns out it is a legit number. It sounds so much like a robocall (machine generated voice), but I called them and it was picked up by a real person who was clearly a rep for WM. I'm not used to get a call from an 866 number since I usually deal with the WM number from Seattle. They had called because the credit card they had on file (they had the number already) was expired (which it had).

A search on the number gave me this site.  No company was identified in the voice mail, but now that I know it claims to be a waste management company, I know it's a scam or a wrong number because I don't have an account with any waste management company.  My apartment complex handles that.

I received a VM advising that I call Waste Management immediately. Checked my Bill Pay and payment was made/received on time. I live in the Pacific NW so I will call Waste Management NW to find out what the story is but based on my payment records, this is a SCAM.

After getting a call from this number claiming to be collections for Waste Management, I first Googled to see if this number showed up in connection with their business. It didn't. It showed up on this page with many scam / fraud reports.

I then logged into the WM website, since I had an old account there, and they did have trouble closing it after we moved. There was no associated account or bill in my name - the account had, in fact, been closed.

Note that giving your number and asking someone for your name is NOT adequate security. There are ways to look up names associated with a number - and, I'm guessing the data they used for phone numbers comes from a data breach, since most people reporting here have had a WM account at some point. This means they likely have a lot of your account information, including your name and your address associated with your WM account.

If you want to be cautious, go to the Waste Management website and reach out to them with the contact information you find there.

I called waste management in my county I'm late by 1 day. He said they don't recognize that number as being from waste management.  He said it was a scam. We pay online so we won't lose our money to the wrong people.
