- Bobby replies to RichThat # is the SS claims line. I verified via the 800-772-1213 requested that SS call me back. I used my voice recognition when SS CALLED. It WAS my voice and name. The 866 # is legitimate.

- Tygerkat replies to SharonIf you already know to whom this number belongs, why would you look it up? Scammers frequently spoof legitimate phone numbers so your assurance that "this is a legit phone number" isn't very helpful

- D ReeseApplied online for Social Security retirement benefits, received a message a few days later to call this number to give additional information. Checked it out via SSA.gov help desk, it is a legitimate number to connect with the processing center handling online applications for Social Security.
- Caller: SSA.gov
- Call type: Valid
- Richard Gangwish| 1 replyThis is totally legitimate. When I initially applied for Social Security, I was told that the Jamaica, Queens office would be processing it and they would contact me if they needed any additional information. They both sent an e-mail and left a message. I followed up and they are the real thing. If you are contacted by these numbers, call them back.
- Caller: Social Security Administration

- Nimrod replies to Richard GangwishIs a call from this number legitimate?
Maybe, maybe not.
Even if the number is legitimately used by the SSA (there is nothing on their website to indicate it is) that does not mean that Scammers cannot spoof Caller ID to display the number when making calls to people in hopes of phishing information from them. - David replies to A. Friend(866)226-2306 IS the Social Security office. I received the same email and verified all of the information with my local Social Security office. They needed information for my claim.

- RCG replies to MSPhone scammers can fake out your caller ID. I have received calls from 123-456-7890, for example. So, don't assume that an incoming phone number is what your ID says it is. I received a phone call from a Social Security office in Jamaica, Queens, New York, but my ID said it was "US Government," and the number listed was 781-557-3000. The next comment indicates confirmed that 718-557-3000 was a Social Security office. But you should call 866-226-2306 to reach this office toll-free.
- Jose| 1 replyThis is a legitimate Social Security number based in Queens, NY.
- Tygerkat replies to JoseDoesn't mean scammers aren't spoofing it.
- Richard| 1 replyGot a voice message from a Jamaica NY number requesting I call the 866 number. I had filed an on line application about 2 weeks earlier. I was skeptical when I was asked for my SSN. I refused and only gave the last 4. After some back and forth the person on the other end knew the exact date and time I had filed my on-line application, my ex wife's name, and the exact amount of my benefit. Nobody else would know that information. This is a legit number but it still pays to be mindful that there are many scammers out there who can spoof numbers
