I called the # back and it says it is Wells Fargo Credit Cards.

I dont even have a Wells Fargo credit card, so do not know why they are calling.

The message was cut off on my machine, so the company name was not identified. The message just said that they could not mail my new credit card because they did not have the correct address for me (I have not moved in 12 years). Then of course they want you to call back and give your address.  Sorry, my banks know my address.

Looks like they have been quiet for a few years....hopefully incarcerated.  Same scam - want to send me my new credit card..yeah right.  If they were legitimate, they wouldn't have to hide their identity now, would they?

Looks like this has been going on a while... I got a call today, claiming they are Wells Fargo Card Services.  They are asking me to call them back (using the number on the back of my card) to update my home address so they can send me my new credit card to replace my expiring card.  They also say that I will need my credit card available for verification. (yeah.. right)
I don't have a credit card with Wells Fargo.  My bank has my home address.  Like others who have posted, I have had the same address for many years.
I called Wells Fargo's fraud dept.  They told me they would only contact me by email or through "Alerts" on my online account.  If there were suspected fraudulent charges to my account, they would call me using an automated call saying there were "unusual charges" or recent charges made in say, " another state".  If this were true, your account would be frozen and you would have to call them back to unlock your account.
If you ever get a call like this.  Don't ever call the number back, instead call your local bank branch or use their listed 800 number, to find out what is happening with any of your accounts.
Wells Fargo asked me to send them an email to reportphish@wellsfargo.com, with the phone message and any other info I had, to help them investigate the scam.

This is the number that *I* called to request a Wells Fargo credit card with chip technology.  I think I got the number from the Wells Fargo website, or the back of my non-chip credit card.  The card arrived yesterday.

And actually, my husband's chip credit card arrived the same day--and he didn't request it, neither did I.  The rep said they were converting ALL their cards to chip cards over time.  And the chip debit card that I called to request (a different # for debit cards though) arrived today.  We didn't receive a call on any of them, but I did call requesting both, the above number for a credit card.

So IGNORE the call! Call the number back that's on the back of your card. Scammers can spoof any number.

The caller identified herself as Sarah Thomas and claimed to be calling to discuss my federal student loan application. She didn't say what institution she was calling from, didn't address me by my name, just left this phone number and told me to call her back. (Since I haven't applied for a student loan, I assume this is an attempt at a scam/scare)

Somehow they are getting information on who has a card for those cards that have been recently mailed out. I ordered a replacement card from Wells Fargo and it came in but with a completely different number for verification. I then got a call from this number telling me I needed to verify my card. They said it was Wells Fargo but just like with Social Security they’re never going to call you. I don’t think there’s any way to stop the online fraud we just have to be more vigilant.

This is a scam. They sent me a message about unusual  activity I called and requested to freeze my account. They transferred me to “another department” and the guy was like oh we can certainly do that then the line gets cut off. I called back again I was transferred to the credit card department and they demanded my ss number, the whole 9 digits. I said I don’t feel comfortable giving it  you and line got cut off again. I’ve experienced fraud  on my account recently so I didn’t think twice before calling this number back. Please just go to your local branch if you’re WF customer if not then I don’t even know why you would call back.

This phone number is a legit Wells Fargo credit card service number. It is printed on the back of my credit card and listed on their website. However, it is a number the customer should use to call them, but not receives call from them. If you receive a call from this number, usually it should be some kind of caller ID spoofing.
