Received a call from a restricted number saying there was a pending lawsuit against meShe wouldn't give me any information.  SKETCHY, SKETCHY, SKETCY.  She demanded I call 866.232.5640 TODAY.  I said, Oh I have to call today huh, then she says "well if you don't want to handle your affairs...."  Wouldn't you think if you were suing someone, you'd want them to have the information?

Erroneous law office calling regarding information that is supposed to be on my credit report, stating that documents had been sent to my home address back in June 2019, but no response had been received.  Since no response had been received, a civil suit will be filed if I do not contact them by the end of business today.  I called back and asked them to resend the documents and mentioned having my lawyer contact them, the ladies answering the phone attitude got somewhat abusive and hung up on me.

We received the same call as mentioned above. When i called i was given the website https://www.sawyeredmondsandassociates.com. I did some digging and called the building that they have listed as their address on the site. I was told that there is a law firm operating out of that location by the name of sawyer Edmonds and associates.   But she said that they only have a virtual office their, meaning nobody is actually at that location. Mail is just received at that location. What i think is most concerning is that everybody is having the same problem around the same time. All of these messages here are no more than a week old. I am 75 % sure this is a scam. But I am also a very paranoid person.

That part of California is probably the world's #2 Capital for criminals pretending to be debt collectors. The virtual office speaks volumes.  Also note that the name keeps changing.

Whenever someone tells you that they are a "lawyer" or that they work for a lawyer or law firm, the first question you should ask is what state(s) they are registered in and their BAR number for that/those state(s).  Then go to that state and check them out, contact them directly using the information in the state registration, as these crooks have been known to research real law firm names and attorney names and impersonate them.

The fake process server extortion attempt usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices:   https://800notes.com/faq/attorney-general

As well as the California AG’s Office:   http://oag.ca.gov/

And since they claim to be attorneys, file a report here (California Bar Assn) so that they are either disbarred or brought up on criminal charges: http://www.calbar.ca.gov/Attorneys/LawyerRegulation/FilingaComplaint.aspx

There is a post here referring to several outfits using that address:  https://complaintwire.org/complaint/_xHUMfE_GBE/mckellar-geoup

The website went up June 25, 2019 and is set to expire next year.  They used a privacy service to conceal who the are and where they are located.

The building is a Regus building that specializes in renting to criminals to aid and abet them.

Alexis Hernandez from Edmonds & Associates left me a voicemail today. Stated that I owe a debt that I had paid off the settlement 10 years ago. Avery Owens told me the firm is Sawyer Edmonds & Associates, said that I still owe $2110.57 as of today. They got my social security #, old address, & the car that I own. I was skeptical & confused. They won’t give me any information on the document that they claimed they sent, in fact, they refused to send me the letter in mail, unless I have agreed to pay the settlement. If I don’t pay, they will take me to court, put a lien on my assets & etc. Well, I moved out of CA years ago. All my past debts has been paid off. They said that I can appeal court near where I live in another state. Seriously, what a joke! Then, she said if the amount is too high, she will negotiate the amount to come down a bit with their client & mediation, guess what? She’s the mediation lol.. From $2110.57 to $925 & to two payment of $328.19. What the crap?!?! The statue of limitations in CA is 4 years!! But, they insisted it’s a rolling act. This story doesn’t lines up. I called the originate creditor, they told me this account has been closed since 2013. Everything has been paid off & account has been deleted/removed/off their hands. Also they have confirmed that they have not hired Sawyer Edmonds & Associate to come after me to collect this so called debt. Avoid this calls from # 866-912-7590 & or 909-321-9190.
