number was attached to an email that claimed to be the Student Assistance Corporation.  and they were saying my loan payments are near "dafault." i'll paste the email below.  it's a totally bogus email, it's a scam. i don't have any outstanding loans and most legit emails do not ask you to call or email back if you are the unintended recipient.  although there is a real Student Assistance Corporation within the Sallie Mae corporation, i've never had a student loan.  bogus email below -

Our records show that your student loan account is near default. Time is limited, so please contact Student Assistance Corporation at 1-866-247-3518 or respond to this E-mail immediately to avoid defaulting on your education loan.

If you are unable to make the up-to-date payment, you may be able to procure a deferment or forbearance that will bring your account to a current status. You can learn more about these options online by accessing www.loanpaymentsolutions.com.

If you default, there are serious consequences:

* You may be reported as a defaulted borrower to national credit bureaus for seven years. This may make it difficult for you to obtain credit cards or loans in the future, jeopardizing your chances of owning a home or car.

I keep receiving calls from this number.  They have even called my parents and sister and have scared them with their tactics.
