http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-a-Fake-Anti-Virus-Program-%28Scareware%29 - Thorn replies to bdhHad the exact same pop-up last night on an automotive site. Even had a voice warning telling me to not shut down my computer before calling the number. Decided to close Safari, shut down computer, waited a bit then brought it back up. Everything seemed normal but I haven't done any online shopping yet...we'll see, I guess.
Has anyone done any shopping after this? - Gloria Valdovinos| 1 replyThis number was put out in an alert, which said that I had a virus in my apple laptop. Then, the voice said for me to call so I did. The man proceeded to tell me that I had no firewall and that my laptop had a virus. The voice said not to do shoping, I told him I didn't trust him and he said , "Well you called me or haven't you heard that if you call me then it's safe?" So I let him do a number of aplications which gave him a way to move my mouse. Later he asked me for 200.00 dollars.I told him I have no money and he disconnected right away. But before he hung up he tried to brainwash me into having them fix my laptop. He asked me what kinds of sights do I usually go on.He asked me what I was doing before the allert came on. Now I feel threatened like if someone knows alll my life. Please do something because I think that this is a fraud.I'm sure it's a scam!

- ter replies to edieI got it yesterday it's a scam. Don't call the number they asked me for 200 to fix the supposedly harmful virus, so just shut your computer down and check it for antivirus safety. Mine was turned off.
- ennHad a pop up telling me by voice that I had a virus and should phone this number for a technician who would help me get rid of the virus. The threat of on line shopping being compromised was reason to fix it etc…I shut down the computer and when I logged on again it was gone. There have been no alerts since this happened three days ago.
- Roe replies to Gloria ValdovinosIf you allowed him access to your computer, you may have had your personal information compromised. Take it to a trusted computer repair shop and ask them to look at it and explain to them what had happened.
This is a scam that has been going on for quite a while. Never call anyone back, neither Apple or Microsoft (depending on what you have) will ever cold-call people to say they have a virus on their computers. It is just a way to get into your information. - DecomsudThe same pop up appeared today on my iMac while I was viewing various news clips on YouTube. A threatening voice stated that I had a virus and instructed me to call the number on the screen (1-866-248-8119) for help with removing the virus - I almost did, but decided instead to Google the number first and ended up on this site. THANK YOU to all who previously posted about this number!! I immediately shut down my computer for a period of time and am just now restarting it - it seems to take longer now to boot up or maybe not - I'm not really sure - but the blue screen message alert is gone although an installer screen appeared at boot up then quickly disappeared. Prior to the original virus alert message appearing an Adobe update screen appeared which I did foolishly click on as I get those from time to time and it seemed legit ... not sure if that is related to the scam or not. Will now try to see if there is a virus on my computer . . . any other information folks can share will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, again.
- KarenI was doing a google image search, clicked to go to a website and it went to a blue colored webpage with words throughout the screen and stated SYSTEM WARRING ERROR, a dialog box popped up and SAID; you have a virus putting your online shopping at risk, do not do anything before calling 866-248-8119 to remove this spyware.
I wasn't convinced I had done anything to warrant an attack. So, I tried to close the dialog box and the window but it wouldn't let me close out or get rid of the box. I then checked off the "do not show this message again" in the dialog box and it closed it and was able to also close out the window. Still, knowing Mac has a built in virus protection, I wanted to make sure. I googled How to Remove Spyware and was reassured. I checked my search engine (Safari) preferences and there is nothing there that shouldn't be. PHEW! *DO NOT call the number* - NellieThis is what I had on my blue screen that popped up. Well I freaked out after reading this and panicked and called the number. The technician was thick accented Indian, could barely understand him and he remotely got into my system and moved his mouse and then proceeded to tell me the problem. He typed this on my notepad on the screen:

I told him I already have a subscription for virus removal on my computer and I would just take my computer to them and was not interested in his offer. He proceeded to show me everything messed up about my system which I had no clue if I indeed had anything wrong. He got into my system through BOMGAR and after I hung up, a survey from BOMGAR was on my screen, I guess to make it more legit appearing. Well I tried printing everything I could and writing down everything from my blue screen to explain to the computer tech my problem. I have software Total Defense that I got from Staples and called them and will take it to them and have it checked out. I tried running a quick scan from this Total Defense and the blue screen message was removed and seems to be a bit slower booting up and so for that reason I'll have it checked out and I guess since I allowed them to remotely access my computer, I probably did a NO NO. In the beginning it looked legit to me, but then I remembered having this before but I did not call a number, they wanted a purchase immediately. I had a virus and that's what prompted me to purchase Total Defense but this freaked me out and looked so legit. I was in my email reading a newsletter and there was the latest atrocity of what ISIS was doing and a video clip. My problem started when I clicked this video and then I got the blue screen with voice telling me to avoid online shopping I had a virus. I hope this helps, I wish I had the sense to google this number before the fact and not after, I'm feeling sick. - ShirleyOpened Mac Book and got message about malware error 895, system 32 .exe failure. - Tamianth replies to AlWith thanks to Slim--registered user here:
Since the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can spam/email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised your ID
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused
What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1. Pull the cables on the computer, so it cannot access the internet.
2. Change ALL passwords stored on the computer
3. Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4. Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything
5. Inform your bank and credit card companies
6. Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7. You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
8. Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you
9. Plug in the cables only AFTER all the above have been done
10. Change the passwords on all online accounts. Even better - access a "safe", uninfected computer, and chance your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.
NOTE:
If your computer set a "Restore Point" while it was infected, any "System Restore" you make will re-infect your computer. Suggest you delete any potentially infected restore points and avoid setting such restore points until after your computer has been thoroughly cleaned!
