I received an error message on my laptop browser (Google chrome) as I opened it to log in to my internet provider, that my firewall had stopped an attempt to breach my personal data. It advised me to freeze all my accounts until the problem was resolved, & provided this phone #, identifying it as Microsoft support. When this sort of thing occurs, I remove my battery for about 1/2 hour, so my device can't be accessed until I restore power to it. I am on a different device right now trying to confirm if the # is legitimately Microsoft.

It is not legitimate. There is no service within Windows, not even Defender, that will pop up a warning about security issues and give a "Microsoft" number to call. You can easily verify the actual Microsoft support number from their website.

I suspect Chrome still contained bad data in it's cache from a previous website that popped up the notice when you next started Chrome. You might want to turn on the option to clear cache and browsing history each time to exit Chrome although that will slow down access to frequently used websites since you will be downloading all the data each time you access a site. You can remove this instance of the scareware by clearing Chrome's cache and browsing history.

My 6th time with this scam in the last two months. Other numbers that have shown up to call are 855-247-2962, 855-246-4836 And 866-368-2344 twice. At least this number didn't have the Warning! voice message. I saved and closed my open documents before going into browser history and clearing the history. I closed Chrome and reopened it, and the history was clear, at least until the next time. I have a spreadsheet with the robocalls on my telephone caller ID, and started tracking these red screen calls, since they use different numbers. Ain't modern technology great. Have a Day!

Wow isn't it weird we're all getting this on the same day at the same time?

No, this is NOT legit.   NO no and no.  Never, ever, ever take any of these seriously, especially the dancing, jiggling "you're our of memory!" banners on your cell phone.

I am a security programmer/tester and absolutely do not have any malware/virus/Whatever on my comp. I haven't in over 20 years of working online with the worst garbage (as most of you know) and seeing people I thought had brains get infected over and over and over by doing stupid things....and not so much.  Scams are getting insanely savvy.  I have no idea why I'd get this and do not go to any weird/untoward sites.  I am pathologically careful and have so much stuff running on my comp it looks like "the matrix" here.  Sometimes this stuff sits until it opens.  I see reports of this same screen going back a few months, then a big hit on people today.  Any site can be hacked with malware or scam-spam ware, so just be careful.

If in doubt (and always be) CALL the party/credit card company/Whoever is claiming they are trying to tell you something via phone or computer.  Stay safe

Interesting. I got the same number 866-273-6507 on Google Chrome. We are expected to believe that the same number is for Microsoft and Google support.

My parents got a pop-up about Google chrome with this number to call. Talked to a person for almost an hour who asked for remote access to the computer and pulled up a list of supposed hackers accessing the network. Said they could fix it and got cc info from my dad before I started researching the phone number. It really seems like a scam. Can't verify but seeing what everyone else is saying we canceled the credit card and are calling Microsoft.

Got the terrible Red Screen message...showed up on Google Chrome screen & stopped all response to keyboard commands. Now, my question is how do I get to Chrome Settings if I can't get anything to respond to a key click? (I've already turned off the computer & unplugged--still got the red screen when I try to sign onto Google Chrome.) ... HELP!
