Just popped up on computer  as I tried to go to a link. Message said something about virus that could track banking information. Link was supposed to be to a video off of Facebook.

Fake Tech Scam Pop-up Virus Attack on All Windows PC.

This alert about a virus popped up on my computer after I clicked on a video on facebook.  I had a horrible time getting rid of it.   I thought facebook was going to take precaution to safeguard its users.  Big Joke.

This "windows security " big red full page warning appeared on my computer.  Stated system was missing files due to virus.  Requested user and passwords so they could correct the problem.  Dialed the number, person with distinct foreign accent answered.  I told her to get her crap off my computer.  She argued with me as to how do I know they put it on my computer.  Kept repeating get your crap off my computer.  She hung up.  I did a full system scan for the "virus", nothing found.  It was very difficult to get rid of the full page warning.  After the scan was complete, I did shut the computer down for the night.  So far, no problems with it this morning.

Restarting computer gets rid of it

Yes, but if you want to prevent it  in the future, get an ad blocker.
