- Eddie| 3 repliesThis site is nothing but a scam. Anytime a site tells you that there is something with your computer without you initiating the anything regarding your computer, it's a scam. The number goes back to people that speak with an Indian accent and say they are the support for Microsoft. When question further they claim they are support for both, Mac and Microsoft. I asked do they pay you and they said no, so I told them then they do not work for either and if they did it would be one or the other. When I threatened to trace their call and notify the Federal authorities, the guy change his tune, but said he would fix my computer and needed to take control of my computer. When I told him that they are nothing but Hackers he started pleading with e that they are not and must charge a small fee to fix it. I told him have a nice Fu..ing day. If you experience this it is an easy fix, hold down the windows button on your computer that looks like the 4 panels with the R key together, then erase what is in the box that pops up, then hit command alt, delete at one time together. This should bring it back to normal. This is for non Mac computers. For Macs, shut computer and start while holding the shift key till it shows your apps. Then clear all memory, and restart.

- lester| 3 repliesstrange,,, this only come thru in Google Chrome... Yahoo does not seem to be affected. If they are coming through our ip address wouldn't we get a message on yahoo, cox, etc ??? el scamo... come on Google,,, straighten this crap out...
- Caller: microsoft??
- DaFox replies to lester| 2 repliesIt is a scare-ware advertisement.
By default, a computer web browser will play video and audio, along with animated image files and the likes, that it encounters on the internet.
Scammers and hackers use this fact to trick you into giving them money and/or access to your computer.
Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, <insert any big name computer/internet company here> are NOT the ones sending out these scam ads, and once they do detect them on their networks, they promptly remove them.
Do yourselves a favor and use web browsers with addons that block ads and scripts, then you will not see or hear 99% of the scam ads.
Computer security starts with the person who is sitting in your chair, right now, reading this post. - Smitty replies to Eddie(866) 285-0655 I was a victim today. They were in my computer and I'm not sure if they stole any important information. I was really upset at my self for not being smarter than that. However they did not get any money from me but I don't know if they stole any information on my computer.
Question:
Can they still access my computer without me knowing what should I do now? - Smitty replies to DaFox| 1 reply(866) 285-0655 I was a victim today. - Jan Trujilloa message popped up on my screen to immediately call the number 866-285-0655 and my computer is locked on that message still . I spoke to the guy with a difficult to understand east Indian accent. I hung up after getting on another computer to look up info but not before I had typed a code he gave me into the computer. I hope I have not jeopardized the computer and am not sure how to stop the message and use the computer.

- Jonathan replies to don| 1 replyYes happened ro me right now, how do you get rid of it 100%?
- Jonathan replies to EddieGoing to try this right now, hole it works. I called to but ended the call when he asked for control over my computer.
- Itza| 3 repliesI also was a victim of this just yesterday. I let them into my computer, but thankfully I think nothing happened my bank accounts are still intact because I told them I didn't have any money at the moment. My question now is: So there isn't any problems with my computer? Or should I take it to a mac technician personally?

- Slim replies to Itza| 2 repliesQuote:I let them into my computer
Since the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can spam/email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised your ID on Facebook or other social site(s), and perhaps on shopping sites.
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused
What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1. Pull the cables on the computer, or otherwise disable it, so it cannot access the internet.
2. Change ALL passwords stored on the computer.
3. Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4. Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything.
5. Inform your bank and credit card companies.
6. Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7. Backup non-executable personal, data files to an external storage device. (Executable files might be infected).
8. You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
9. Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you.
10. Connect to the internet only AFTER all the above have been done.
11. Change the passwords on all online accounts. Even better - access a "safe", uninfected computer, and change your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.
NOTE:
If your computer set a "Restore Point" while it was infected, any "System Restore" you make will re-infect your computer. Suggest you delete any potentially infected restore points and avoid setting such restore points until after your computer has been thoroughly cleaned!
You fell for one scam, and might be susceptible to others mentioned on this site:

Read that info to educate and help protect yourself!
Honest computer companies do NOT cold-call people, or cause popups from websites to tell them their computers need fixing!
Some scammers even have websites, and falsely advertise they are associated with popular software packages or computer companies; so do NOT believe a "we will fix your computer remotely" site, and allow them access to your computer!
