Aaron DeWall telephoned seeking the name of the executor of my recently deceased brother's estate. DeWall would not clarify his purpose. I advised Mr. DeWall that I would not communicate his contact info based upon his failure to clarify.

I received calls weekly in regards to my mother's "estate" on her home phone number which I still kept active. I then received a call on MY cell phone. Last straw...I called the number and yes, it is DCM Services. I simply asked them to STOP calling both the home number and my cell number. I had called from my mother's phone and they could "see" that one through caller-id, so they said as much and asked for my cell number to also remove. I obliged. They did then ask "who was the person handling the estate?"...I asked "who wanted that information?" They replied they "could not divulge that information" and I told them "I could not "divulge" any information about the estate of my mother," so stop calling. They agreed to and case closed...(for now at least, we'll see going forward)
    Hope this helps.

My husband is the executor of his recently deceased uncle's estate. We just got a call from this number, which we didn't recognize, but since there sounded like a live person leaving a message about "trying to locate the person or persons in charge of the estate of Mr. ....", my husband picked up and started talking to him.
Meanwhile, , I Googled the number, and 800notes came up as the first hit, so I showed it to my husband and told him to [***] it down, because it was a scam call. They had managed to verify his first and last name, but that's all the information they got out of him.
Seriously, it was a good thing I was around when these damn vultures called. He has always accused me of being a paranoid conspiracy theorist, but I think he realizes how much money I have saved him. :-D

Your husband does not yet realize how many criminals are out there trying to steal credit card numbers, bank account numbers, personal identification, all of which directly affects US citizens of all kinds. Most of these criminals do not work together as an operation.

The scams that are reported here on 800notes are not groups conspiring with each other to defraud US citizens either, each group is out to steal as much as they can before their also-illegal competitors can get the money.

Not all criminals are making phone calls, some are are opportunists hacking and looking for ways into computer systems to get the information they want to exploit. Some of them sell or give that information to the scammers who are making these phone calls.

There is a journalist who created his own blog site about his research into these hackers. He's the one who broke the news about the Target breach, the Anthem breach, and others. He has written has many articles about card skimmers and hackers stealing money out of the bank accounts of small businesses, and how it was done.

I strongly suggest you and your husband read some articles there. I hope your husband realizes how bad things are.

"He has always accused me of being a paranoid conspiracy theorist"
WInk at him and ask him if he's joining you.

It's not a scam. Scammers generally do not use 800 numbers because they are very easy to track down. This number is a collection agency trying to collect unpaid debt (credit card balances) from people who are deceased. They are looking for the executor of that person's estate because the estate is legally obligated to pay creditors first before disbursing assets to the family. If you are not the executor of the estate the tell them who is and they will stop bugging you. Easy as that.

I just received a call from this number - Alicia - not identifying where she's from but that she's trying to get in touch with whoever is handling my deceased father's estate.  Googled the number as it sounded sketchy to me since he didn't have much of anything to his name and I handled all payments etc already.  And thanks to this feed for helping confirm to me that it was indeed sketchy and bogus and a scam! Thanks to all!

Happy to read this thread. Just got a call a few minutes ago. Luckily I do read. I don't answer numbers that I don't know; if the call is important, they leave a message. I inquire (99.9%), regarding these types of numbers before I get concerned in any way even if they leave a message. Thanks to both 800Notes and others.

When I got home today there was a message on my voicemail.  I didn't catch the name of the caller, but the message said they were looking to locate the person who is handling the estate or final affairs for my recently deceased husband.  Weird since I don't know how they got the home phone number...he always used his cell phone number as a contact.  The home phone is in my name and not listed.  I got the name of the company from caller id.    I googled DCM services and it says they are a collection agency that focuses on deceased collections.  We were married less than a month, and my name wasn't on any of his debt.  Not going to answer them,

DCM services is a debt collection agency connected with American Express, along with other companies.   I received two calls from them on July 11th but thought it was a scam.

For information purposes, we called American Express immediately after my son's death (May 29) to close his account to make sure no additional charges were put on his card.  We also paid $50 as the minimum payment due June 19th  because no estate bank account had yet been established to pay the full balance of over $2000.  (It's not uncommon to take at least 60 days to set up the bank account because the executor has to be appointed.)

We knew the final full payment (after opening the estate account) was due by July 19th, but never received another bill showing the balance from American Express.  So last night I called American Express to get the final amount due.  I advised them the estate was paying this bill in full and he didn't seem to know what to do.  Finally he told me to call 866-285-2387 (DCM)  because the file was now with this debt collection agency.

This seems premature for American Express to at least not wait one month to see the good intentions of most people before sending the account to a debt collection agency.
