I got a message from them yesterday.  My credit is not the best so after the call I ran a credit check and they were not listed as someone I owe.  Does anyone know what other companies they deal with besides Avon?  I sold avon a while back and did owe them but paid the debt.  Unfortunately, I can't find proof that I paid it.  I'm not sure weather to answer these calls or not.  Could this be a scam?  I don't want to answer if they are trying to rebill me or get me to pay something I don't really owe or can't pay.  I HATE getting these calls...sigh.  Any advice would be appriciated.

This number keeps calling me and when I pick it up, no one is there to answer. I'm afraid they may be scammers calling for money.

The number is for a debt collection agency used by different companies. For example Bank of America uses this company for debt collections.

I can't remember which creditor LTD is calling me for, as I have so many.  I am in debt, and I am running from the creditors for 7-10 years, when the debt will be wiped off my credit report anyway.  Currently I'm several years along.

If you're in debt, get a Windows-based smartphone, like a Motorola Q or a BlackJack.  Buy a $9 software from Efficasoft called SmartBlock.  You can put your creditors & unwanted callers on SmartBlock's "Black List", and poof - you'll never get a call again from them.  You might get a v-Mail, but it's better to delete a v-Mail than talk to a creditor.  In 7-10 years, your debt will be wiped clean off your credit report.  I'm already 4 years along, and creditors rarely ever leave v-Mails!

Actually, just before it hits seven years, they will sell it to another collection agency. And poof, seven years starts all over again.

    From the FTC Website -

"A Texas-based debt collection company will pay more than $1.3 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it misled, threatened, and harassed consumers in violation of federal law.

“Debt collectors who get complaints from consumers should not only take notice, but also take action,” said Lydia B. Parnes, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “The message from this case is clear: Either comply with the law or face stiff penalties.”

According to an FTC complaint, in many instances, collectors for LTD Financial Services, L.P., which collects on about 1.25 million consumer accounts per year, violated the FTC Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by falsely threatening or implying that LTD would garnish consumers’ wages, seize or attach their property, or initiate lawsuits or criminal actions against them if they failed to pay.

LTD collectors, who collect in English and Spanish, allegedly called consumers at their place of work despite knowing it was inconvenient for them to receive calls there, and disclosed the existence of debts to family members, employers, co-workers, and neighbors. They also allegedly harassed consumers and used abusive tactics such as immediately calling back after consumers hung up on them, and sometimes used racial slurs and profanity. According to the complaint, in some instances, front-line supervisors and mid-level managers either participated or were aware of such practices under their supervision but failed to impose sufficient discipline."

So basically, criminals are calling you.

Wow Micheal, thanks for that post. I'm reading a court document from FTC.gov on them. You can search for it. These guys have been calling me too, under two different numbers. They think they're slick. If they call me I just tell them they have the wrong number and hang up.

No it doesn't. As long as no payments are made or agreed to, the debt will not be collectible after the statute of limitations runs. (varies by state, but never more than 7 years)

Not true as there are states that are longer.  For instance Kentucky is 15 years for certain debts.

In CA.  They call continuously.  They sent me a letter stating they know they can’t attach wages or sue due to statute of limitations, but would like to settle a debt for a portion of that which is owed.  They are the 4th or 5th company debt sold to in 7 years.
