- P| 1 replyWell on my message they said they were the IRS and they were filing a lawsuit and I needed to call them. Maybe the IRS would like to know about this...hmmm (866-304-3179)
- DIsgusted replies to SI know the feeling well. Even after you call them back and alert them to this fact they will still call. Their excuse is that until the item is "cleared" the calls will still happen. How about if their idiot phone bankers actually READ THE NOTES!!
- BPThey call INCESSANTLY! If it's Merrick Bank, I do owe a payment, so it's my fault and my responsibility. But, leave a message and I'll call you back. It's unnecessary to call 50 times in an hour and never tell me what you want...sheesh!

- CWG40 replies to PIf they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Also contact your local attorney general
If they are calling about a debt owed directly to them, they may not be subject to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. However there are still state statutes that might make such harassment unlawful.
