- 2smrt2answrMe too....Caller ID says "not provided". I never answer unknown numbers and they did not leave a message, so I have now BLOCKED 1-866-316-1619.
- LuluCaller ID said Comcast, they said your son is in danger.
- Caller: Comcast
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- SsllyAnswered and said we need to know what type of modem you have. Scam!!! Needless to say not provided and hung up.
- Caller: Phone said Comcast! Not!!
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- JRD| 1 replyThis number called my elderly parents. They claimed to be Comcast and was walking my mom through a download on her computer. (Coincidentally, my parents are having Xfinity issues, so my mom thought it was legit.) My sister happened to stop by and heard what was going on. She took the phone from my mom and questioned the guy who was way too unprofessional to be believed. We are hoping that they did NOT finish the download of Ultra Viewer Remote Access. I am infuriated that these scammers prey on the elderly.
- Caller: "Comcast"
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- BigA replies to JRDThey run that con on everyone. It just so happened that in this case it was an older person. I know a ton of young people that fell for this.
Thanks to Slim, another registered poster here and computer whiz:
Since the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can spam/email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised your ID on Facebook or other social site(s), and perhaps on shopping sites.
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused
What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1. Pull the cables on the computer, or otherwise disable it, so it cannot access the internet.
2. Change ALL passwords stored on the computer.
3. Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4. Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything.
5. Inform your bank and credit card companies.
6. Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7. Backup non-executable personal, data files to an external storage device. (Executable files might be infected).
8. You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
9. Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you.
10. Connect to the internet only AFTER all the above have been done.
11. Change the passwords on all online accounts. Even better - access a "safe", uninfected computer, and change your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.
NOTE:
If your computer set a "Restore Point" while it was infected, any "System Restore" you make will re-infect your computer. Suggest you delete any potentially infected restore points and avoid setting such restore points until after your computer has been thoroughly cleaned!
You fell for one scam, and might be susceptible to others mentioned on this site:

Read that info to educate and help protect yourself!
Honest computer companies do NOT cold-call people, or cause popups from websites to tell them their computers need fixing!
Some scammers even have websites, and falsely advertise they are associated with popular software packages or computer companies; so do NOT believe a "we will fix your computer remotely" site, and allow them access to your computer!

If your computer needs fixing, bring it to a local repair shop - ricklucky for me phone app that we are not allowed to name stopped the call
- Caller: comcast?

- LCaller did not leave a message, but Comcast did call the other day at 215-286-1700.. Since I have Spectrum, and they service my area, SCAM suspected. Googling this number shows Comcast Technical Support, but again, they are NOT in our area.
- Caller: Comcast?

- Scott| 3 repliesCaller ID gave the phone number the first time. Guy was asking for my wife because the computer was having technical issues. I blew a whistle into the phone and hung up. As I was blocking and reporting the number on the cellphone, he actually called back, this time listed as Comcast Technical Support. In the meantime, I blocked the number and reported it. Assume it's a spoof, but who knows. Noticed they're still trying to get through. I blocked the number, but it' s showing repeated instances of "auto rejected call." About 5-6 times per minute. I hit Unblock, and a fresh call came through, then another, then another. Where do these people get the balls?
- Caller: Comcast Technical Support
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- BigA replies to Scott| 2 repliesJust to recap. You did that, which did absolutely nothing to them but annoy them, damaged your own hearing, and now they are harassing you back?
- Scott replies to BigA| 1 replyI didnt damage my hearing. I have the whistle as an mp3 loop. I just push the earplug against the phone and crank up the volume. I wanted to damage his hearing, since i dobt know the location and can't do anything physical. Its kept other scammers away, but this one decided to keep trying to get through about 30 more times in the next 10 minutes even though i blocked it after the first call.
- BigA replies to Scott
Impossible since it is a well known fact that telephone systems will not transmit a sound at a decibel level that would cause damage. Hence my statementQuote:I wanted to damage his hearing,
Which is even supported by the fact thatQuote:which did absolutely nothing to them but annoy them
Interesting also is the fact that you came back here after days. What would have been the reason for that? Were you going to tell us that they called again?Quote:but this one decided to keep trying to get through - JADEsaid they were getting a signal with problems to internet
- Caller: comcast
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- StacyMy caller ID says Comcast but the caller say he's with AT&T and needs access to remove a virus from my computer. I'm not subscribed to either one so I hung up and blocked the number.
- Caller: AT&T Comcast
