Identified themselves as Dudley and Associates out of California. Female I spoke to said that they are a "mediation firm" who "reports" back to the original creditor (in this case, Capital One) for a credit card debt I supposedly owed from 2002 (???). She provided me what appeared to be a civil complaint number, but turns out it was just there inter-office "reference number" not a case number from a court. When I asked her had a lawsuit been filed, she said "no" but it is being "considered". When I asked her did her firm "owe the debt" she said "yes, but they are not a collection agency", they are "agents of Capital One". She forgot that previously she had told me that they are a "law firm". She attempted to get me to verify my address and county of residence, and already had the last four-digits of my SS#. This is clearly a sophisticated scam that preys off of peoples ignorance of legal procedure and lawful collections practices. Similar experience - they left a voicemail.  Made to sound like a law firm.  Said something about a complaint, need to call 1-866-318-0533 and gave a case ref number.

I received the same message as a text message with the same number to call. I'm sure it's a scam
