If they hang up as soon as you answer, how do you know it's Portfolio Recovery?

A call-back to their number gets a recording that says they are Portfolio Recovery, a notorious buyer of old debt. After they get their list of numbers to call, they call all the time. They used to use about 74+ different numbers that appeared to come from all over the U.S., but with spoofing, who knows? All those calls had Caller ID with their name, in caps, PORTFOLIO RECOVERY..They stopped that months ago. They're known for never checking the accuracy of the numbers and names they call. Anything connected with them should be blocked.

There is a program offered of some the cell carriers that IDs the caller before you answer.  Nice likeness.

Left Message: "Hi this is Anita Crawford Calling for [unintelligible] is she available? Hello..." Sometimes I think the caller intentionally flurbs and garbles the name they are calling for just so they can initiate some response.

Called and was dead silent for almost a minute before they answered finally. Portfolio Recovery asked for my info told them they called me so they must have it and I was not giving anything out. They said they needed it for verification I told them then you have a nice day and she said you as well and we both hung up.

Showed up in my phone as "Nonprofit". That's a new one. Debt collection or scam would be my guesses.

They call me 2-3 times a day, leave no message, and I block them

Shows up as accounts services. Call early morning weekends. Blocking them!

They call every single day from multiple numbers.  I settled a 10 thousand dollar debt to bank of America for 7 grand in 2002, apparently bank of America sold the 3 thousand dollar balance to this company and they've been calling me every day for over 20 years.   I was under the impression that settling with a credit card company meant just that.   I should have just declared bankruptcy and save seven grand and tens of thousands of phone calls.
