A voice mail from 1-605-357-4499 claiming to be the fraud department at Citibank called and left this number 1866-321-8538 to call back. A woman named Kathleen claimed to be from the Citibank fraud department. She told me my information had been used to open a line of credit through citibank at Home Depot. They then asked me a few personal questions which I answered (I Know stupid). The told me I should call 18666-688-5747 the citbank Identity theft department and sign up for some kind of credit lock accout. I checked all three credit reporst nothing had beem opened in my name. ugg. They totally caught me off guard. I called the actual Citibank Fraud department and they confirmed this was a scam.

I received a call from a person.  The Android SMART caller ID said it was Citibank.  I could not talk at the time so I said I would call them back. Before doing so, I checked the number.  First Google:  no matches for Citibank but a suspected spam report from 2020.  Next, I called a known Citibank number and spoke with a couple of groups - no one could find the number in Citi's phone directory.  Obviously, I won't be calling them back.

To be fair, I wanted to update my post.  After a lot of calls and Google searches, I found out that the number is for a company that does identity verification for credit card companies (including Citibank); it's called a CSSU (Cards Servicing Support Unit) and they do Know Your Customer (KYC) checks.  Apparently, I will be receiving a snail mail that includes the number - that's how they said I would know that it's a legitimate number!

Wow, you went through an awful lot for one unknown phone number.
And just because you get snail mail with this phone number in it that's not a guarantee it's legitimate.

Just to be clear.  Yesterday you called the bank and they told you that this was not one of their numbers.  You then decided to keep looking and looking and looking?  What was the reason for that?

Who did you call a lot?  Google searches (and Yahoo as well) do not bring up this number or that company name.  The company does not exist anywhere in the world.  How do you explain that?

I don't get why you were so hell bent on focusing on this number, when any normal person would have simply contacted their bank as soon as possible. Considering that it is very common these days for scammers to spoof a number, it really was a waste of time to do all that research for nothing.  Even if you determined your caller was legitimate, it is no guarantee that it will be for others.

Only one other person posted 2 years ago and had the right idea, might have saved your self the trouble if you had only read it more thoroughly.
