Cashed and didn't leave a message. Cashed back with CID blocked and it's Portfolio Recovery Services, a collection agency.

Incessant calls. They won't leave a message. I block the calls. Research shows it belongs to Portfolio Recovery LLC. Filing a complaint with the FTC.

I dealt with Portfolio Recovery Services, I kept asking them to send me the paperwork showing the amount they bought the charged off loan for and I would pay that amount. They are trying to collect full price for something they paid 5 cents on the dollar for. They continue to call and I continue to ask for the paperwork with the amount they paid. Not gonna happen I guess.  They are scavengers. Bankruptcy will fix their wagon, then they get nothing at all.

    Don.
Called but left no message.   Normally I wouldn't have called but after reading it was a collection agency,  I contacted them, let them know that the prior person was no longer the owner of my new number and that they should persue other means to collect the debt.  They were polite and hopefully this is the last I will get a call from them.

You may block your number when calling a toll-free number but it still shows up on their CID.

They are calling on a debt more than 11 years old and I asked for the paperwork to substantiate the debt as I have been debt free for many years now. I paid off all I owed and haven’t opened any accounts since. They never provided me with anything and continue to call and not leave a message. Running my credit report to make sure they don’t post inaccurate info and damage my credit. I suggest Anyone who has received a call from them do the same. They have an awful reputation and have been known to collect debts that are not truly owed by intimidation.

There was a big lawsuit against portfolio  recovery  services several years ago for making harassing  phone calls. They still call me from different numbers. They will call 5 or 6 times in a row, every day including Sunday.

Here I have been blocking number after number expecting a different result. That is actually insane! So I did some research and found this excellent article by BigA on what to do:    https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-859-340-1606

Guess it is time to get busy reading and learning then taking this problem into my own hands and making the calls stop!!!!!

But it won't make a lot of difference. Automatic Number Identification is a feature available to commercial telco customers. ANI traffic flows between telephone company switches. Plain old consumers can't control ANI, and it's all separate from Caller ID traffic. Any star codes you might use to control your own Caller ID therefore do nothing but indicate your rather futile attempt to mask Caller ID.

That's none of your business and PRA is not obligated to discuss its acquisition costs with you or any other ordinary consumer. That line of inquiry is also not preserving your rights. Maybe your focus should be on making PRA substantiate its claim and reviewing its actions for probable FDPCA violations.

Never ever speak to them or any other debt collector on an old debt. Once they confirm your identity and the debt, the statute clock starts new. NEVER talk to them.

They call about every other day but never leave a message. I'm guessing it's Portfolio Recovery trying to collect on a disputed debt that's over 20 years old, but why would they not leave a message or speak when I say hello?

I've received other calls lately, too:
    "Is Mike there?"
    "Who's  calling?"
    I'm looking for Mike"
I know, you just said that, but you didn't say who's calling."
    "Is this Mike?"
    "Who's calling?"
    "This is a business call"
    "A business call?"
    "Yes! That's right."
    "What are you selling?"
    "I'm not selling anything, sir."
    "Everybody is selling something."
"No, sir. This is a business matter. Is this Mike?"
    "Who's this?"
"This is a private business matter"
    "State your business."
    "Is this Mike?"
"If this a business matter then why don't you send a proper business letter through the mail?"
    "Okay, sir. Thank you."
    And I hung up.
They never said who they were.

Soon after I received a letter from Portfolio Recovery (coincidence?) saying something like, "We won't sue you," and "How would you like to pay (some obscure amount from a 20 year old, ignored refutation, with no explanation, no reference, no names, and nothing to legitimize the request)?"  I'm guessing it's related but I don't really know.  This collection agency, if that's what they are, seems shady, and I've heard a lot of bad stories about these kinds of places.

I've entered Telemarketer below because I don't know what is or isn't related.
