They try to play it off and say that you already signed up for a magazine but in reality they just want your information. They reread the terms and such (stating that it is what i have now) and asked if i accept it. I felt that it was suspicious and did not accept any of the terms.
I later called my credit card company and they charged me 49 dollars but was then credited. Im sure it was cause i declined it.
Please be aware of this company. They are Tricky- Caller: Reader Source

- Minnesotan replies to aGlassI had the same call and when I asked for my account number they were not able to give it to me and hung up. I've already fallen prey to this in the past and have paid multiple months of $49.98 to this company.
Signed, Just sick for my stupidity! - BlaineI've had the exact same problem as both the others (minnesotan and aglass) I spoke with my wife and she had actually given them information and paid the $49.98 and that is the same amount as the others. I called and questioned the lady over the phone and used interrogation techniques by asking questions forward and then backward after a couple minutes. She was very inconsistent with the information. She said I owed her appox. 250 and then a few minutes later it was 300 dollars all of the sudden and another 300 dollars to "cancel" the subscription to magazines that we have never received. Also, when the lady answered the phone she said "good evening, magazine CONNECTION" WHEN THE BILL CLEARY STATES THE NAME OF THE BUSINESS IS MAGAZINE **CLUB**. When I asked the lady why she said connection instead of club she stuttered and then said "there are three businesses in this suite" This is a pathetic scam and please do not fall victim to this scam. They will threaten with "collection agencies" and also taking you to court but they know that it's going to cost more than they are collecting to pursue this "money you owe". 100% SCAM. Watch out!

- GabrielleGot a call from a guy named Michael Davis who said he was from Magazine Connection. He first said he would put me on the do not call list. I am ALREADY ON the do not call list. He then said I owe $49 for magazines that I did not order. He asked me for my credit card number...A VISA card starting with the number 4. I refused. I don't even have a VISA card. He threatened to turn me in to collections, and that he'd see me in court. The magazines they say I ordered, I wouldn't even want. They ask a bunch of personal interest questions (I'm sure to figure out which magazines to SAY that you ordered).

- nikkieI have also received a letter from Magazine Club - claiming unpaid bills. There seems to be a number of companies accociated with them Magazine Services, Promo Readers, Reader Source... maybe more. They also claim their collectors have been calling me and been hung up on - and of course I would have to pay a 300 dollar/200 dollar/whatever cancellation fee. Does anybody have any suggestions how to get rid of them? I've contacted my credit card company, but this is all making me very nervous.

- Hates MannyThis guy called me and lead me to believe I had signed up for a free year subscription of maxim. I had a maxim subscription, but it wasn't through or with this company so I was really confused when this a$$ called me. Anyway, long story short he lead me to believe I was now under a 2 year noncancelable agreement for 49.98 every 3 months, and in the end tried to get me to try out something else. When I refused he continued to try to pressure me but I didn't agree to get anything. I did unfortunately give him my credit card number, which was stupid of me, but I called today and a woman said she would waive the $300 cancellation fee but couldn't refund the $49.98 I paid. I flipped out at her and definitely ruined her day.
I'm also disputing the charges with the bank, I'm unsure if they can collect on the $50 if they turn it over to a collection agency, a friend did say since I was confused and lead under false pretenses it may not but who knows..- Call type: Telemarketer
- sick of thisI've having the same problem with these magazine. They continue and continue to call and are sending the magazines. They ask for the $49/month and say so much is owed, they are sending it to collection. I asked them to please stop calling, of course, stop sending the magazines, i want them cancelled and they were never ordered. They claim they have a verbal electronic signature counting as the sale. i asked them to please play a copy of that(since it never happened) they then put me on hold for a few minutes. When they returned to the phone call they said they were unable to locate it. They call 2 or 3 times daily. One caller had yelled obscenities into the phone and repeatedly referred to oral sex. I am going to use one of the links above to fie a complaint. Is there anywhere these magazines can be returned? I already took them to the post office where they said not to send them because it only goes to the manufacturer, not the sales company

- SuckerI was contacted by them and they stated that they were with another company that I do business with so I verified my information as they also stated they could change "payment options" that i have with my other company. When I looked at my bank statements I was being charged by BOTH companies. I called my original and they had not idea about the other call and stated they were not an affliate of the Magazine Connection/Club company. I called my bank and reported a fraud case against them as they gave me misinformation to get these charges. I encourage others to do the same if you haven't already. These scam artists will try anything - I'm just lucky that I got them saying they were with the other company when I was confirming everything. The fact that they lied there made it fraud.

They called me originally asking if I received my magazine, (which I've gotten a few but just thought I got on some mailing list). They asked odd questions like my employment and for my card...that was odd so I dismissed them, but they called back a few weeks later.
This time they told me the same story everyone has, that I was pre paid up front for these magazines and were now calling to verify my account so I could pay. I refused, and also asked where it was I signed up for this, I was put on hold and given to someone who could not answer, they also could not give me the card number...claiming it was all x's. This was all too weird and did not give them any info.
I asked to cancel and was told there is a $300 cancellation fee. The alternative was to make 4 payments of $39.98, she claimed the normal price is $49.98 a month.
I told her this sounds like a scam and I will not deal with it at the moment.
I dont know if they have my card or are fishing for it, but I am going to my bank to see if anything was deducted and see if I can fight it, also going to get a new card.
If they call back I am simply going to tell them they will hear from my lawyer.
They also never said the name of this company, and when I called the number just got a message saying thank you for calling customer service.
If you see this number it is an absolute scam and they appear to be very aggressive.- Call type: Telemarketer
- FedupI have exactly all of the same problems as everyone listed above. I even received a "delinquency" bill for $1199.00!!!!! First of all the bill wasn't printed on company letter head. Second, it wasn't even signed by a person. It just said "account manager". The "bill" was from: Magazine Connection, 1600 Champa Street, Suite 350, Denver, CO 80202. Phone number is 866-323-1278. I think these companies are trying to scam up so they can raise funds to defend themselves against the complaints that have been lodged against them in the court system. The last time they called my house and asked for me my child told them I had died and she started crying (she wasn't really upset of course).

I was bamboozled in June 2009 like others by Reader's Source, but cancelled the credit card after I realized it was a scam and they were charging me for 5 magazines that I did not want for 2 year subscriptions !!
On another site http://www.scaminformer.com someone recommended filing complaints with the Attorney Generals of Colorado and the state you live in.
Any idea what happens after I file Attorney General complaints? Do I just ignore further correspondence and phone calls and ignore their threats?- Caller: Magazine Connection

They are collecting data for a case against Magazine Connection, so if you have been scammed by them, they welcome any information you have at the Colorado Attorney General's office.
