I received a handwritten envelope with no return address, postmarked 7/22/13. Upon opening the letter it had a black letterhead saying American. The letter informed me that I won two round trip airline tickets. Of course the letter said that i would need to respond by 7/31 or forfeit my prize. The letter was signed by the vice president Sue Meyer. Upon researching this letters authenticity, it appears it was sent from a scammer. On this site and others it appears that many people suspect that this info came from the breach on Apple's developer site. I do not have a developers account I only have an iTunes account.

I recieved this letter also with a hand addressed envelope.  I qualified for 2 Roundtrip intercontinental airline tickets value up to $1198.   Boy was my mom excited!   I hate to tell her just another scam.   That's the problem,  she is older and thought it was real.

Received letter in the mail today - no return address but postmarked from Phoenix AZ on July 23, 2013.

Phoney company stationery with only the single logo word "American" in black at the top.  Immediately suspicious because there is No return address, no company address in the letterhead, No company header.

Letter is dated as "July 22nd, 2013"

    Letter reads:

"I am pleased to inform you that you have qualified for an award of 2 roundtrip airline tickets.  Congratulations.  These tickets are valid for travel anywhere in the continental U.S. from any major international airport.  The retail value of this award is up to $1,198.00.  Certain restrictions apply.

We have attempted contacting you several times without success.  This is our last attempt.  If we do not hear from you soon, we may need to issue the ticket vouchers to the alternate.

Please call me today at 1-866-329-7640.
    Regards,
    Sue Myer
    Vice President

...Vice President of WHAT?  of Phoney-Baloney.

Letter is signed in blue ink with what appears to be a man's handwriting.  Also, he must have filled out a stack of these suckers.  There are deep indentations on the paper by the signature that clearly looks like there was another sheet that was sitting on top of it.  So I was not the only winner?!  Ha!

The stamp is a regular stamp - not a pre-sort or a bulk mail stamp.
Could probably go to Phoenix and take a look at their security footage to see who is bulk mailing these suckers out and scamming people.

I got the exact same letter that I have read from the existing posts prior to mine.  The letter is dated July 22nd, 2013.  Another sad attempt at scamming hard working people of their money!

I swear the hand writing on the envelope is the same as the Food for the Poor envelope!

I received the exact same letter, and I don't have an iTunes account. Please forward your letters to your  Postal Inspector. They are very interested in scams like this, and apparently this is very widespread. It's likely the mailing list was hijacked from some company's database.

I do not have Itunes. I received the same letter. I wonder if American Airlines wants to see this? In the spring I went to garden show in York, Pa. my GF signed us up for some kind of vacation swwepstakes. We have been getting phone calls ever since.

I received the same phony letter. Handwritten envelope with no return address. It was postal stamped from Phoenix AZ 852 on July 25, 2013. The letter itself has American written at the top in black. Same story as other people, I won 2 free round trip tickets. It was signed by Sue Myer, Vice President.

Same situation as others.  I have an iTunes account.  Also have ordered iPods from the Apple website and  done a warranty iPod return with them at one point.
