Just got a phone call (went to voicemail) from "Amy Nelson" claiming to want to talk to me about repayment options for my federal student loan. (I have none and I graduated college over thirty years ago!) The callback number she left was (866) 332-8998. This voicemail sounded more credible than most scam calls I've received, like those about Microsoft or Apple accounts or Social Security. She spoke perfect English - not robotic and without any of the awkward wording and weird sentence structure that many ESL callers have, and her spiel included several pauses, ums, etc.; just enough to sound genuine and sincere. She left a reference number 070099. Has anyone called back or actually talked to this person? I'm just curious what kind of scam this is. If I did have a student loan I might even have called back, and I never rise to the bait with phone scammers, so this is a particularly well done scam. The one red flag was that she didn't use my name.

Got that same call yesterday and I thought the same thing when she didn't say my name or anyone in my house. She left the same exact reference number to use when calling back. So I'd say SCAM!

SCAM!!!  I got a call yesterday from "Amy Nelson" from the same telephone number.  It sounded very real, but no name of who she was calling was mentioned. No name of a company nor government agency given. The reference number is the same as the other people who got a call from "Amy".  It is 070099.  The phone is in my name and I have no student loans.  I checked and no new changes concerning student loans have been made yet.  I decided to check the internet and sure enough, it is a scam from just what we know;  No name of recipient, no agency or company name is given, the same reference number for everyone, having no loans, no changes in student loan policy yet......  I would guess that the recording is pre-recorded to sound very real.  If you answered, what would happen?  I agree that a person with a loan would call right back and get fleeced.

I dialed the number (before I looked up on here), and the line would go dead - no ring.

Got same from Amy Nelson & Ref #. Sounded legit other than not having any specifics like name.

I received the same call twice in 3 days. I called my loan provider who states its a 3rd party and that nothing is wrong and they wouldnt call unless i am in default. Also my loan provider doesn't leave reference numbers. Definitely a scam caller.

Got a call this morning (Aug 2nd 2019) a few mins ago - same woman as mentioned by others on this page - Amy Nrkson, same reference number 070099 - Also did not mention my name at all in the voicemail - Last but not least, I have never obtained a student loan - End of story ~ 100% SCAM

Got the same message as everybody else. Called yesterday from a Mississippi number, today from an Arizona number. Same message with same inflections so obviously a recording. Was given the same reference number as everybody else to check the “claim”. I was at work yesterday so forgot to follow up. Today went online to my loan account and checked, everything is fine, online chatted with my lending institution they said it’s a scam and to not call back. I did an internet search and found another 866 number with 60 reports about Amy Nelson so I guess they changed the 866 number. Don’t call them back

Just got the same call a few seconds ago!! Same reference number, same as everyone’s saying above. Got the call from a 530 number (Dobbins, California) and was told the same reference # and the same # to call back. Why are these numbers even allowed to operate and scam people???

As noted like everyone else on this site, I too was called today 8-2-19 with the same identical language as Missy.  I totally agree it is a SCAM!!! I am half tempted to call back to find out what they have to say, but I won't because some robo calling numbers can transfer to another country charging your cell number an astronomical amount of money, just for the call.  Just blocked the number but I will get the same type of call in a month from now but a different person will contact name from different number using the same line as they have done for the last 4 years.

I too received a call from Amy Nelson at 866-332-8998.  She provided information about the federal student loan program.  I haven't had a student loan for 25+ years.  Gave the reference number 070099 to provide when calling.  As the other note stated she gave just the right amount of pauses to sound sincere.  I would definitely rate this as a scam -

I received the same call everyone else mentioned at 11:56am today (Aug 2 2019.) It was from a Pennsylvania number. Same voicemail as everyone else.
I also received the same call the other day from a Maryland number.
I never even went to college, so a definite scam.

I don't know why we shared this loan MissY, but I had the same call with the same reference number, and my situation is the same.  Sounds like they are fishing for people with Student Loans, because you get an under $10,000/over $10,000 option tree or a "no federal loans", "we won't call you anymore".

I just received the same call this morning - same name - Amy Nelson - and she left the same reference number 070099.  I immediately figured it was a scam - googled the number and found this post so it's confirmed.

I just got the same call. Same reference number as everyone else on this thread. It's a scam. They keep getting better and better with these because she sounded legit. Stay on your toes people!!

I received the same message just today. The same caller. The same call back number. The same reference number. I do have student loans and I am so thankful for you MisssY for putting this out there.  Blocked Call.
