They are repo men/women trying to get your vehicle...their ploy is to sound as official as possible. Hence, the investigator/911 B/S. It is not a criminal matter, it's most definitely a civil matter. Don't sweat it! I answered the call & turned it around on them. I told them, they can pay me if they want the car. I have had my car without payment for a long...long...long...long...long time! I know the game. Also, you can register the vehicle as long as you have insurance. The worst case scenario is a judgment for what you owe.

I got several messages from this # 8668039928. They went as far as calling my and my husband's workplace telling us that we had to hand over our vehicle or else.. Well after I got into it with one of the women that called.. she called the next day and said I have to talk to my contact and then get back to you. I had all my receipts where my vehicle had been paid and I still haven't heard back. My husband and I almost got separated because of these calls because he thought I was continuously lying to him. Now that I've read all these messages, I won't fall for it again..and just like Geo said it's a civil matter not criminal!!!!!

This is simply a recovery co. that is on the edge breaking many laws.  They are clever in the wording of the voice mail and title of the company.  Anybody can do "general" investigations. However, you have to be licensed to do "private" investigations.  Police departments will always identify themselves as such, no reason disguise their intent (and they do not call if you have a warrant unless they are outside your door).

The "911 recommendation" is also just a tactic to make you think they are some kind of official entity.

The illegal part of these tactics lies in 3rd party disclosure and/or making threats of actions they do not intend on or can legally take.

This "investigation unit" called my grandmother's house saying that they found out I had 2 social security numbers and that one was being used illegally. I have no idea how I would have 2 SS#s nor have I returned their calls. They have also called telling my mother the same thing about her SS#s. I told her they are obviously a scam and just want you to give them information on yourself.

I got the same type of call on 10/13/10.  It was from 866-366-4921. She said her name was Marilyn Lewis.  She had an accent that I had a very hard time understanding and spoke really fast.  All I really understood was she was from the Bureau of Crime Investigations and that she was investigating my case.  The call actually came up Emergency 911 on my cell phone ID. She also wanted to verify my SSN which of course I didn't do.  I hung up and redialed the last call.  My local 911 office answered.  I reported the scam to the police.  They told me it was an International Identity Theft Scam!!!  BEWARE!!

I got this same thing last night when I came home from work except it was posted with an orange pamphlet on my side door saying URGENT, We are conducting an investigation under section ORC 4749.0., It is imperative that you contact the private investigator without delay.. Please call Immediately: (866) 370-2015. Called and got a 911 recording and put in extension 8111, spoke with Edwards who was looking for someone who don't live at my home, no mail comes under this person's name etc. I told them I am a new tenant and gave them my landlords # to see if it was someone that lived there before.  This crap freaked me out and I lost a night's sleep over it because it's creepy and you can't trust people at all in this country.  They need to put names on the stuff so you know what they are looking for.  It sounds to me they were repo agents but my cars are paid!!! He told me he wouldn't send any more agents to my home again.  Hope this helps out for people who get this.

Been getting calls for the last couple months looking for someone I have not spoken to in years.  Advised them this at the first call.  Then on 11/2/10 got a call saying they have my name and number as a contact, and it was Investigator Gino from Dallas County .  I knew what it was so I called them back and got the message if this is an emergency hang up and call 911 then sounds like it was repeated in Spanish.  Then a computer asked for my name so "it could tell them who was calling."  I spoke to a guy named "Investigator Gino Martinez" and I once again told him that I have not had contact with this person in years and he advised that he got a report that they moved.  Again I said I do not know, have not spoken to them in years.  He then said that he would take my name off as a contact.  I guess now I have to wait to see if that is true, but I am not holding my breath.

i just got a call from these people  looking for my van , i recently got discharged from a bk. what should i do??

I just got the same call today, at 12pm. At the time, I was in class and had my phone off as my professor asks us to. When I got home(20 min ago), I checked my voice-mail and I got a call from a lady named Monica, saying "Robert, this is Monica. If you could call me back at 866-668-3622 and reference the account number *****, that would be great". I didn't know what this was for so I called back and got the 911 message and could not get a hold of anyone. I decided to call back numerous times, while also checking the number up  and "general investigation unit", and found this forum. Good to know nothing is wrong. Also, I do not think this is about any REPO because I bought my car from a dealership and paid in full that day. Anyways, thanks for the info everyone!

We had a note on our door too,the number was 866-370-2015.This is a real spam and I didn't call them.Don't saste your time on this.

I rec'd a bright orange tag on my door. "Urgent we are conducting an investigation under Section ORC 4749.0 it is imperative that you contact the private investigator without delay. Please call immediately: 1-866-370-2015." When I called they asked for someone who does not live here. I informed them of that. The person stated that I was a liar and they would send someone back out. I recorded the message. I am referring this to an attorney.

I got one from 866-370-2015.  bunch of B.S it is!

hehehehe hey are u a lawyer if so not a good one i am a recovery agent and i work within the law you are a dead beat butt i digress anyways yes you can be arrested for turning a vehicle over the lien holder can get a court order to take possesion if you refuse to comply with a court order you  will have a warrant issued for contempt so it doesnt have anything to do with exp plates or ins at that point the criminal offense is not complying with the courts order its almost the same as an eviction it will be conducted by youre local sherrifs office so hehehehhahahahah smartguy

Got 6 of them outside my house today, on doors...on 2 windshields....Called the number-866-370-2015-and said the 911 thing, then say your name.  I did (only first) and got the voicemail recording.  Screw 'em.

I got the bright orange "Urgent" letter on my car this morning. Called them and my first tip off that this was some kind of BS was that the guy answered with a "Hello"...If this was a legit investigation company or any company at all the phone should have been answered with the person stating the name of the company first. Then his first question was not "Who is this" it was "What's your address". C'mon now, I'm not stupid! But he sure is!

Someone came to my door at 7:15am asking for me by my married name, I am currently divorced and has changed everything back to my maiden name. My 16 year old son was up getting for ready school, when he answered the door a man handed him a bright yellow paper with tape on it for me to contact the number. When I called it, It stated if this is an emergency please hang up and dial 911. I continued to hold and went to a voice mail asking for a client #.

Whatever you do...DO NOT UNBLOCK YOUR NUMBER -- especially if you are calling from a landline, home or work, or they will be at your doorstep.

I just received a call for somebody who i have no idea is.  mark bradford called me from the general invetsigation place, from number 866-874-3103, and gave me a case number, i called back, and and he answered and was very rude! they made me record my name on the thing, i am soo nervous, and then he calls me bcak and apologized because i wasnt supposed to get that message, or phone call.  he said that my number was 1 number different.

I started getting calling on my job from suppose to be Officer Jeff Morrison, threatening me with going to jail for taking out a loan and not paying.  The first call he said was for one amount and then as he kept talking he went to another amount.  I told him to quit calling my job and insisted that he talk to my supervisor, cause he was going to get me fired.  I told him what he was doing was illegal and don't call me any more.  He stopped for a while but then started back up with threatening messages.  He even went so far to say that the authority was on their way to arrest me unless I make arrangements right then to settle up this debt.  I told them go ahead and do what you gotta do.  That stopped for a while.  Then they started calling my house with all kinds of threats.  I would just hang up.  Now a card was left on in my door saying they are from General Investigation unit.  When I called the number 1-866-325-2989 ext. 300997 no one answers, just a recording telling you to call 911 if this is an emergency otherwise leave your name and number and someone will get back with you.  If they are legitimate why don't they do things the right way cause your scare tactics just will not work!!!!
