Scam!  Recorded message included the first & last name of their intended victim.  Stating a complaint had been filed, but due to the corona virus there's a delay in reaching out.  Option to dial the number back or press 1 to speak to an arbitrator.  I pressed 1 and spoke with an uneducated stooge.

Michael Brown cannot legitimize his company but has my full SSN and has called my friends and family to threaten that he will sue me if I don’t pay for something he claims is an open and unpaid account from well over 7 years ago. They rope you in with your SSN # and then threaten to take you to court if you don’t settle with them immediately. This is not how due process works. None of the information he provided was legitimate, not the business address, the phone number or the website...and most importantly the claim that I owe anyone money. The fake company name is CCS and the fake website is www.classifiedconsumer.com. The fake company address is 186 North Ave, Jonesboro, GA 30326. The fake numbers are 844-331-1202 and 866-364-7280.
Keep in mind that Equifax was recently hacked, which places our SSN #’s onto the open market.

That site is up for sale if you want to buy it for $9.88.  Equifax was hacked a very long time ago.  These people do not necessarily need the information from that hack.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I have received several calls from this number.  They claim I owe a debt to a clothing store.  The first caller stated I owed 1043.00 but if I was sued I would owe 1,73.00.  I then received a call that I owed $443.00 and that they could knock the number off by 60% if I agreed to pay today.  Again today, I received another call and they said I owed $443.00 and that I was going to be sued at a later date.  I called the actual store and the bank that issues the credit card for that store they said I do not owe them any money.  I spent 2 hours making calls to get to the bottom of this.  It is a scam.  I have not had an account with that store in over 8 years.  Each time they call me they give me a different date.  First it was 2017 not its 2012.  The weird thing is that I check my credit report monthly and this debt does not appear on the report.  I asked them if I owe a debt why doesn't it appear on my credit report they claim its because the company has not filed it yet.  Everyone knows that if you don't pay your credit cards for two months it automatically goes on your credit report. What's also strange is that they do not idenfiy themselves as a law firm when you call them.  The last person I spoke with said he was calling on behalf of the client namely the store when he should have said he was calling on behalf of the bank that issues the credit card.   I have sent a letter to the Better Business Bureau and to Consumer Affairs.

Exact same with a different amount around $2000, he had the wrong address, but had my last 4 of ssn and name. He stated it was a debt on a credit card and gave me the card number. I did my research, contacted Mastercard, checked on the BIN - It came up as Capital One, called Capital One 3x and spoke to 3 people and all confirmed that number was not a card issued to me or to anyone. Also stated my accounts were paid. I asked Brian Cook how he got my info and he said they receive it from collection agencies...well strange he couldn't tell me which one is the one filing the suit against me and I asked who he was collecting the funds from and he said Capital One, but CO said they are not, so he was lying and I asked him for the validation letter and it had his company name, and ref Capital One and an amount and if I would not respond, he will file a suit against me. Strange this card has never shown up on my credit and this year he claims I had it I didn't have one with Capital One. So he said I would only be able to dispute this at court or after it appears on my credit report. I spent hours researching this...not sure how they got this information.

Automated message, text to speech, call repeatedly. Have my full name and claim they are moving to the final stage of review and to recommend to call them so that personal statement can be provided. I saved the voicemail. There has been some recent TCPA and FDCPA case law, if you can nail them down. Also check your state's debt collection and consumer protection law. They may also be required to be licensed. Also, if the debt you owed  is past statute of limitations, they can still ask you to pay it, but they can't sue you for it.

All of those hours were wasted.  Every single one of them. Because of this:

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
