It's called skip tracing. We can call your family, in-laws, your job, your previous job, your neighbors as long as we don't say you owe a debt it's not harassment. Want it to stop? Just say "cease and desist contact or you only want contact via mail only"

This is for past due credit card through Chase Bank

yeah, because when you call to confirm if someone lives across the street from me I'd NEVER guess why you wanted to know....... and  worse when it results from ID theft you might as well be slandering the poor soul. I'm not super excited to pick up the tab for the skippees, but there is collateral damage.

Melissa from this number left a message on my answering machine.  Still couldn't make out the ext. # after listening to it twice, but she did say something about verifying location. Have no idea why she would be calling since I have no delinquent accounts, though several units around me are occupied by college students, and they can be bad about paying their bills.

One thing that bugs me about calls like this is that caller ID never shows number or company name.
They just show Private Caller as the status. And un fortunately, you can't always assume these are junk calls, because my best friend has an unlisted number and she shows up also as Private Caller.

Is this company related to the car insurance company of the same name?

This is from Nationwide debt collectors, collecting for Chase credit cards. They contacted our landlords and used a common name John Ayers, we did know someone by this name, but it's not him. Our landlords? Really? Said it was urgent. We were worried something happened to the guy we used to know. Nice stresser!

In reply to your post - I have requested you no longer contact me, my neighbors, friends or employers.  Just got off the phone with one of your representatives....she refused to give me any contact information - I was recording the conversation and you are in violation.  I had already contacted Nationwide and told them to cease and desist.  The lady I was speaking to wanted more info from me, when I questioned her she stated that Nationwide had received the ceases and desist request and no contact was to made with my employer......just received another call this morning!!
Imagine that!  All is recorded, letters have been saved...........you are in violation of Debt Collection laws.

After asking Nationwide to cease and desist calling friends, neighbors, employers or anyone else they might possibly contact with my name...........I received another call this morning from a man that identified himself as "Peter".  He left a message with my manager from the phone number 866-381-5530.  When I called the number the woman was very evasive, claimed she couldn't help me without more information, then stated that she would look at my record, then stated she had received a cease and desist...............when asked how I could have gotten another call she couldn't reply.

Those that look up this telephone number have to understand that collection agencies, such as Nationwide Credit, are bound by the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act. The call may seem mysterious or a "scam" when in reality, it is a collection call by a highly reputable agency. I state this because they are a large company and there is no doubt that they follow the proper procedure in making the call. Too much liability to do otherwise. Some smaller agencies do not act appropriately and when this happens, you should report them. All you have to do is google the acronym "FDCPA" and you can then educate yourselves on exactly what can and can't be done on a call. The key thing to remember is if you have a debt, take the time to return the call. In most instances, you will find the various agencies that are calling you are more than willing to work with you on the debt without resorting to any strong arm approaches. Worst thing to do is ignore the call and possibly end up in legal action and, more importantly, the calls continuing until that becomes the end result. Hope this helped.

In the last 22 hours I have received 3 calls from this number. I work 3rd shift, so, if I didn't have my phone on silent, they would be getting told exactly where to go. I  never answer, and they never leave a message. This is not the first time I have received calls from this number. I have looked it up before, saw that it was supposedly "Nationwide Credit" working for Chase. Well, I contacted Chase, and they said that they do not recognize the number. You know what that tells me? This is a SCAM. If it were legit, they would leave contact information, and Chase would know who they were. Also, they would not keep calling and harassing as they do.

I got a telephone call at my work from Kaylah Looid asking me to call 866-381-5530 ext 281020  right away.  She wouldn't leave a voice mail message and told the receptionist she didn't have access to email.

When I called the company answered Nationwide Credit. I was asked to verify the last four digits of my social security number to make sure they had the right person.  I said no.  Then I was asked to verify my middle initial, I again said no.  They wouldn't tell me what they were trying to accomplish, other than "they weren't selling anything."  I insisted they remove my name.  It really seemed fishy.

Just ignored a call on my cell phone from this #.  Will continue to ignore calls if I don't recognize the #.
They also called my son's cell phone, which he ignored - umm, he is 13 years old and has no debt, nor a bank account.  Some people need to get a life instead of calling random phone #'s.

This is to anyone and everyone this or any other creditor is harassing you, calling you, etc.

The poster FRO HERE, is not telling you something.

That CEASE AND DESIST they are talking about--

you have to send them a letter to their STREET ADDRESS, not p.o. box

telling them to CEASE AND DESIST ALL FURTHER CONTACT WITH YOU, WHETHER IS BE BY PHONE, MAIL, OR ANY FORM. CEASE AND DESIST ALL CONTACT !

YOU MUST SEND THAT LETTER BY CERTIFIED U.S. MAIL TO THEIR--->> STREET ADDRESS .
Make sure you tell the post office you want RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED.
Make a copy of you letter you send for your records. The post office will give you a receipt the day of the mailing.
Keep that. You will fill out a return receipt card that the creditor will sign for when they get the letter. That will be returned
to you by mail. Keep that as well. Staple all that to your copy of your letter for your records.
Here is the kicker;  make sure you send the letter to their physical street address and NOT to a P.O,Box.
Street address and the postman collects the return receipt from them after they sign and he puts it in outgoing mail.
Do not send to a P.O.Box as the creditor is the one who is responsible for returning the return receipt card and they don't always do that.
Creditors usually know what a certified letter means and return it to you, refuse delivery.

JUST PUT ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE LETTER ON THE FRONT-->> ATTENTION:   ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE

That way they think it's a big payment they are about to get and will gladly accept it.

With the bad economy there are attorneys everywhere who will take your case for no money up front , where they
get paid only if they win. Federal law, if your attorney wins; requires the collection agency to pay your attorney fee's.
    You get paid also !
Each violation after you send the collector that cease and desist letter , is 1000.00 or actual damages whichever is greater.
Keep a call log of each and every call from that collector after you sent your letter. Who you spoke to, time, date, their
number they called from, I snap a quick video of my caller i.d. box showing their info.
If they are calling your cell phone, you can ask your provider about call logging where it shows all the incoming numbers
to your phone. Some it is free and some charge a small fee. That is the best proof.
Cease and Desist letter, send one by Certified Mail. I myself send mine by  REGISTERED MAIL, U.S. POST OFFICE
RETURN RECEIPT. COST A LITTLE MORE BUT WORTH IT.
Also put in your  cease and desist letter for the creditor to stop calling ANYONE WHAT SO EVER ABOUT YOU.
Tell them to stop calling family, friends, and especially your work place as it will cause you to get fired.
If your fired after that. You have a  GIANT lawsuit against them for causing you to lose your livelihood.

They were rubbing it in your face.
Call an attorney and sue them.
It cost nothing up front for an attorney. With the economy bad now , a lot of attorney's will take your
case with no money up front and when they win they make the collection agency pay their fee.
    You also get paid money.
Make sure you send another follow up CEASE AND DESIST LETTER telling them to stop all contact with you.
Make sure you tell THEM TO CEASE AND DESIST CALLING YOU AT WORK AS WELL BECAUSE IT WILL
CAUSE YOU TO LOSE YOUR JOB.
If your later fired because they call your work, you will have a very big lawsuit.
Should you every be fired because of collection agencies calling you, make sure your employer notes that
on your termination slip !  Make sure your not one of these people who get lots other calls at work from family, etc.
You want to make sure the collectors calls are the only calls.
Have a  talk with your employer, tell them you did not give anyone their phone number and can not help it that
    they are calling you.
As for how they know where you work. They call your neighbors, landlord, etc.

They even look you up on facebook.

So DO NOT tell your private business such as where you work, to neighbors or anyone and especially don't post that
    crap on facebook.
