- Desert Rat| 1 replyReceived a call 2/18/08 stating it is Dell computer requesting a call back to confirm my order. I do not have an order pending at Dell.
- Call type: Unwanted
- In the Desert tooI would suggest calling them back...this is a little ironic because I'm in the Desert too and was a victim of Identity Theft on 2/20/08 - someone used my info to make a purchase at Dell. I just got a call from Dell and they told me the phone number you referenced in their Fraud Dept. I'd suggest calling them. I hope you're not a victim of ID theft too.
- Dallas, TXAutomated message left on my voice mail that I needed to confirm my order with Dell. Called them back, verified billing and shipping addresses, had to verify how long at residence as well as my full name. I too do not know why my order was flagged, as all my data on the order is exactly the same as the data for the cc.

- illinoisReceived call to confirm order of dell warranty for $711.13 !! Pressed 2 for did not order as urged by automation. was referred to "fraud dept." to the above number. Well, this number has been in used at least a year based on other posts. I am calling in the morning to the number in Dell's official site and ask if this number belongs to them. I bet you it does. If confirm I will report it to the Better Business Bureau. And I urge everyone to do the same. Will keep you posted.
- Caller: unknown
- FloridaI did place an order with Dell and received a call from this number (which came up as "unknown" on my caller id). Asked me to verify the address on my credit card. I told him I would call him back once I could verify that he was from Dell. When I looked at their website, this number is not listed as one of theirs. When I called their 800# to check on my order I was told it was fine. I asked him to open a claim with their fraud prevention dept since I was concerned with my info getting outside the company
- Caller: claims to be Dell

- NC| 2 repliesGot a call at 10pm EST from a guy claiming to be from Dell. Asked me if I recently purchased a Dell Laptop computer, I said NO! He said is this (my name) and I said yes. He said I think someone has used your card to purchase a computer then with card ending in (last 4 digits). He was talking to my husband by now on the phone and I started getting suspicious since it was late and "Dell" didn't come up on our caller ID, but rather "unknown caller" and "not provided." My husband said we would call him back to confirm. He did get a Dell recording making it sound "official" but got right through to the same man we were talking to...which really got us thinking...something isn't right...googled the number and here we are. Called our credit card, someone did purchase a computer though from Dell. Calling now to cancel our card and calling Dell. By the way..we do not shop online with this card either, but it is stored on PayPal which I'm deleting next!
- NC replies to NC| 1 replyThis actually DID in fact turn out to be Dell and I'm so THANKFUL their fraud dept called us! There was fraud going on with my card and I did not know anything about it....this person from Dell's Fraud Dept called and alerted us from this number. It is a good number.
- Dell CustomerI got this message this morning. Called back it was Dell. Kind of creepy though. The questions were to verify I purchase I made two days ago.
- Caller: Dell
- FORMER Dell Customer| 1 replyThis is the most bogus way of doing business I have ever heard of! I have ordered many times from Dell and never had this. I keep getting calls telling me to check my email because my CC has a hold on the order and they cannot ship, and yet, no emails. The CC does NOT have a hold! Each call from "Dell" is automated and from a different suspicious number. I finally returned a call to one number, and the things they asked were unreal!! Information they should not even know, like the year of my birth, etc. It was very creepy, and very wrong, but the woman (in broken English) explained that if I did not comply, no computer! This is the LAST Dell I will buy. What sort of business practice is this?
- Dell Customer| 1 replyI placed an order on Dell and got my order confirmation email - all looking good. About an hour later I got an email from a person with a Dell address (name does not look North American at all) claiming he/she needs to verify my order or else it will be cancelled. Below is the email:
*****
Dear Customer,
Greetings from Dell!
We need to confirm some information regarding your recent order. Please respond to this email. My office hours are Mon - Fri 7:00pm – 4:00am CST.
You may alternately call our Toll free – 1-866-383-4713 Mon – Fri 9:00am – 10:00pm CST
The information that we need to confirm is:
1. Cardholder name and billing address for the credit card that was used.
2. The shipping address for the order and the name of the person who will sign for the package, & a phone number to reach them :
3. Is the shipping address a business address? Name of the business? Phone number for the business?
4. We will also need to know if the computer is going to be exported or will it be staying in the US.
5. Country card was issued in & the name of the issuing bank.
6. Also please verify your employment – name of the company you work for.
If you can email me or call me with that information it would assist us in processing your order.
Please note that failure to contact us within 1 business day may result in cancellation of your order.

Obivously I got suspicious because Dell would already have my credit card and shipping information and why would they need my issuing bank and place of employment? Also the person's office hours are totally opposite of normal hours (7pm - 4am CST) so I replied to the email asking what the reason was behind these questions and still nothing yet back from this person.
Then interestingly, I got a shipping confirmation email from Dell telling me my order is shipped and will be arriving in a few days to the shipping address that I had entered originally. So obviously the above "Dell employee" is not really from Dell!
I googled the number and this website came up so I wanted to give my story to perhaps help others decide if their encounter is legit or not. What I am really curious though, is that in the scam email they have my Dell order # which is why I thought it was real originally (until I got to the body and content of the message). No large company (at least not someone as big as Dell) will ever ask you to confirm your credit card information through emails. - ArizonaGot a call from a woman claiming to be from Dell Corporation's fraud department, and was calling to verify a $1780.44 purchase of a plasma TV. She wanted the last 4 digits of my husbands card, which I would not give her as I told her I could not confirm she was really with Dell. Of course she gives me her number with and extension. I will be calling Dell directly (not using the number she gave me) because I think this is a huge phishing operation. I will also be contacting our credit card company's fraud department. While I had the supposed Dell woman on the phone, I pulled up both of those cc accounts online, without giving the woman any info, and did not see anything weird. Will keep you posted on the results.

- packerfanCall came in from Dell fraud department - somebody tried to charge a laptop to my wife's account. They had the credit card number, our phone number and our names. They did not ask for any personal information. Called my credit card company and they confirmed that there had been a charge and are issuing new cards.

- brokeback replies to Desert RatI recieved a call from Dell. They said they were calling to verify a purchase. I checked with my bank and they had taken out $1499.59. This was a fraudulent charge. My bank was able to stop it in time. I think they got my info from an old purchase through Dell. BEWARE!
- Devin1010| 1 replyThis is a Legit Phone Number for the Dell Verification Department - 866-383-4713. Dell Fraud Prevention. They are calling for your Security and Safety of your personal information if something fishy happens with your your Credit Card in our system
- Another customer replies to Devin1010Same events here. Dell gets fraudulent charges and chose to verify a large portion of orders to avoid people getting ripped off. I called with a large dose of suspicion and didn't give them my details, but they alreay had them in the system anyway. Got the computer just fine.
I personally was inconvenienced and skeptical of their call, but still glad that they do it. - Mr. WhiskersSame here. Got a voicemail call after cell phone was turned off from a woman in broken English with an Indian accent. I received email confirmation of order and shipping schedule. I have decided not to call.
- Kate replies to Dell CustomerI have the same problem now :/ got a similar email but a different email contacted there online chat and she said I has to reply but the email just didnt look good. the customer number were all wrong so I emailed them hopefuly my details are ok
- Rob| 2 repliesI got the same call after purchasing a computer from Dell online last week. I thought it sounded an awful lot like a phishing scam. But it turns out it is actually a real Dell number to their credit fraud unit. I know because when I refused to give the lady my employer's name (she claimed in broken English that it was needed for "privacy reasons"), she canceled my order.
I had the last laugh, though, because I just went to NewEgg.com and got a better computer and a better monitor with faster shipping for $100 less than my Dell order. I never would have heard about NewEgg if Dell hadn't canceled my order.
So, things I learned:
(1) This is a real Dell number for their credit fraud unit.
(2) Dell's credit fraud unit is really unhelpful.
(3) There are better places to buy computers out there.- Caller: Dell
- LaraThis number does belong to Dell. They have to call to confirm if the shipping and billing addresses are different to prevent fraudulent purchases. A lot of people are using stolen identities to purchase laptops through Dell, so this is their response to it. I just wish the caller ID said Dell ...
- Caller: Dell
- Kae replies to NCI do not think it is a good number. I ordered from Dell. got an email to say my order as being processed. Yet
I got an email hours later from Dell with this number. The man is in India. he wanted additional security, such as my date of birth. There is something going on.The man in India told me he already knows my date of birth , that he got it from my credit card! I will have to cancel my credit card. What if a business is going on in the side? Are they employees of Dell and taking our information?
It happened in Europe, it can happen here. Outsourcing is not safe. Why should our personal details be in India? I will not purchase from Dell again.
