- Ben| 1 replyI have no idea why are they are calling me. This is in regards to an address I lived at over 20 years ago. They are threatening legal action. Bring it on! For one thing I don’t owe anybody any money, and secondly their way past the statute of limitations even if I did. I am assuming this is a debt collector or a scammer.

- anon replies to BenHi, just got a call saying they have questions about my property lol...ha to them, I don't own and the address they gave is my po box. The other clue it's something scam-like is they said reference file #. I do probably owe someone. I'm almost caught up on stuff...but saying you have questions on my property is weird..... Of course they will probably threaten legal action, serving me at my job, place of work etc....Don't let people scare you into this. I tell them bring it on....
- Mike| 1 replyReceived a call from 866-385-0295. Rep said they were a debt collector and I owed on an HSBC credit card acct that was eight years old. The Rep threatened legal action and told me it was a civil matter. I asked for documentation thru mail or email and they refused. I called HSBC and they said I don't owe them anything and the company is a scam. Don't ever pay these companies anything!

- BigA replies to MikeIt is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter, email, or text (postmarked in the case of a letter) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. Unless they have communicated it to you verbally at the beginning of your conversation. It also must contain the “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this communication must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that communication you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

And gave my address. And when could they deliver it to me. I said that depends on what time they would be coming. He told me he would leave a voice-mail that gave me information to approve my husband to sign for the package. Then in the voice-mail he left to give me more information was saying they had questions about my property and to contact the company and reference number whatever and if I didn't contact back that authorities would be involved...
- CatThey called from a restricted number and left a voice mail saying this was my final notice? Didn't refer to me as my legal name but instead a nickname. Said they had questions about myself and the property I live at. Just said the street name but nothing else. They gave a number to call back 866-385-0295 and a case number. Said if I failed to call They would forward it to my jurisdiction. Have no idea who this is though and sounds like a scam
