- bh| 3 repliesi got a call from this number with a recording telling me i had not activated a new debit card that was sent to me and to call to activate it. something didn't feel right, they answered cardmember services, i asked what company, they said suntrust (which is my bank). But then she asked for my card# and i refused to give it to her. I called the local branch and they verified everything was OK with my cards. Wasn't aware of this new process of having a recorded voice contact customers.
- Caller: Maybe Suntrust Bank
- Call type: Event reminder
- Wilmington,NC replies to bhI just got a call from this number too. But they didn't say anything when I picked up and it just sounded like how it sounds to the other person on the end of the line when you are driving and have the window down.
- sasquatch989 replies to bh| 1 replyI got the same msg about a new Suntrust card. I'm not in the US at the moment and my card is not set to expire, so there's no reason for a new card. I've sent an email to Cust Serv. A crosscheck of this number doesnt yield anything regarding Suntrust or the card issuer, Visa.
- Tiffany replies to sasquatch989There was a 3rd party processing center that processes card transactions that several Sun Trust card holders have used. This 3rd party's system may have encountered a security breech and Sun Trust was notified about it. Sun Trust went and issued new cards for any account holders that they feel may have been put at risk. This doesn't mean that your card was ever used fraudulently, it just means they are trying to protect you before it happens. You should receive a new card in the mail that you'll need to activate in order to use... then you discard your old one. Just make sure you call any companies that automatically withdraw payments from your account monthly, as they will need to have your new number to process them. This should have all been explained to you in a letter when you received your new card.
- stetra52Got a call at 3:04 PM from 866-385-6530. Nothing but static, so I checked here.
- Caller: "OUT OF AREA"
- jlmOh, everything makes sense now. I was given a new SunTrust card and number because my old # may have been compromised. I never took the time to activate the new one because I zeroed my account and it closed due to inactivity (I switched banks because SunTrust took TARP money). I guess the card services company did not know about this and called to remind me to activate the new card. Good for them.

- betty boopWe also received a phone call twice on my daughter's phone -I called them back and told them that I looked them up via the internet this site and that I am reporting them to you and the local police dept. you can NEVER be too safe.
- jlm
- Caller: SunTrust
- Mr. Namibiayeah betty, no need to call the police department. as you can see from the descriptions above, there is a reason for the call. you don't need to give out your personal information blindly but you also don't need to freak out.
- Caller: 3rd Party Vendor contracted by Suntrust
- Call type: Unwanted
- PDYYeah! Right! I got a call form Suntrust about my checkcard. Unfortunately, I do not have an account with Suntrust. What's UP! Beware!!
- Caller: Suntrust
- SUGDefinitely sounds like a phishing scam. They asked for my SunTrust checkcard number. When I told them I've never had a SunTrust card they hung up.
- Caller: Wannabe SunTrust
- TNFThis is from SunTrust bank and legitimate. I do a lot of business with SunTrust at my job and I also have a SunTrust account. They recently had a lot of card numbers that were possibly exposed and they have reissued a lot of cards with new a new account number. Your old card will probably work for a few weeks but will most likely be shut off in the next couple of weeks. If you didn't receive a new card you should call SunTrust. If you don't feel comfortable calling the number left on the recording you can call SunTrust directly (1-800-SUNTRUST) and they should be able to help you. It's not a scam and if you don't have a SunTrust account then you should probably call SunTrust to find out why you received a call or why they have your information.
- Caller: SunTrust Bank
- Call type: Valid
- ashVery definitely fraud, even the attempts to defend the call are vague - about "cancelled" cards, and distort the event. No firm calls you about this! No one ever asks for your card number. It is a phishing scam, and rather involved. Call them back and they know your phone - and that you will respond. They called my business number (never used for this information), tried to get my return call. I've never been a Sun Trust customer. Do not return calls!
- EReceived email from them about my account. The only thing I don't have an account. Well, I got to get back to my other email. I have one from some Nigerian needing help to move some money into my account. I just lead them along and frustrate them till they figure it out. They sure do get pissed off after awhile.
- money mitchI gladly give my card number to anyone who asks
