    This is a Debt Collector.  The robot debt collection message left on voicemail is identical to many others I've received for the former owner of my number.  The other calls were from different numbers but the voicemail is identical

    Try to get a business name and share it with the readers. By federal law this name cannot be withheld. Learn how to exercise your FDCPA rights as an alleged debtor at FTC-dot-gov.

    It is a collection agency working for Sallie Mae. I've been getting threatening calls and demanding people on the other end of the line for a couple days now. I keep telling them I'm not who they are looking for and it doesn't faze them at all! They keep prodding and asking questions like I'm on trial. I finally hung up on them last night and they called me back immediately and she said "don't ever hang up on me again!" This is a nightmare and they are seriously starting to worry me. She said she was going to find out who I really am and for me to give me the number for my employer so he could vouch that I am who I say I am. That's not right at all... They won't even give me their mailing address so I can send a send a certified letter to them to stop calling me. I've googled Sallie Mae and called them and they say that they cannot do anything because it's their "collection agency" and I don't have an acct. number. Hello?!?!?! I am not your customer!! Just stop calling me with threats like you're on some kind of witch hunt! I'm to the point where I jump when my phone rings. I'm not a sue happy person but I think an attorney needs to be involved here... I'm at the end of my rope...

    Tough spot ... I see three firms related to debt collection with that name, in Colorado, Florida, and in Winnipeg, Manitoba. There's a discussion on Debt Consolidation Care about the Colorado version which concerns a suspicious law firm. The fact that your tormentors don't want your mail should tell you how little they care for your rights. Keep digging. Their hostility may turn into a FDCPA payout for you yet.

    Does anyone know the name of the actual company?  I think I may have to take action as my sister picked up my cell phone and clearly stated that it was not me, and the lady on the other line persisted to tell her things in regards to my account.  Also my sister explained that I was in the basement of our home, and I would call her right back and she very meanly told her " Well I just don;t understand why you can't just go get her".  I called back and spoke to a supervisor who was even more unprofessional than her employee.  She blatantly lied about what was said in the conversation, and proceeded to tell me that I don't have a sister!!!!!  Well needless to say that really set me off!  I feel that this was handled wuite disgustingly on their part and I would like to file action.  If anyone knows of any good attorneys in New York and the name of the agency that called me please let me know.  Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    •Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    This is a new number for Central Credit Services. Here is their BBB page with contact information: http://www.bbb.org/north-east-florida/busines ... nville-fl-1935/
    They called our house today, looking for my husband. They also called my parents house (mind you, we're in our 40's and my husband has never lived there or used their current phone as a reference since the number is less than a month old) using a robo-dialer and recorded message. We've just faxed them a cease and desist letter telling them not to call any more and to mail a letter to us outlining the alleged debt. When collectors call before mailing notice I always assume they're scammers. So I'm assuming that's the situation here.
