Fraud. Do not call

Hi, I just received a blue screen on my apple computer when my son was looking up a certain breed of dog which stated I need to call this number to get rid of a virus. Can you tell me if this is a scam?

I called the Apple Store and talked to a technician. They helped me get out without harm to my computer.

How did you get out of it?

this phone number popped up and locked our mac!

I got the same blue screen this morning. How do you get rid of it?????

Kelly and others, my safari screen just got the "blue" screen grab and the hideous warning telling me to call 866-399-6365 or a virus would download; safari was totally locked up, and the whole thing looked suspicious. I looked up the number using my iPhone search and got this 800notes page, so I knew the phone number was a scam, thank you all for your reports. I immediately called Apple and tech told me how to get out of it. if you have an apple computer, go to your apple icon and force quit safari, then do not turn back on safari without the "safe" opening mode: hold down "shift" key at the same time as opening safari. bingo. blue screen and spam message gone. I may try this for the next few times I open safari just to be on the safe side. I was being foolish and clicked on 1 too many "celebrity" news stories.  (you might want to clear the cache as well)

We had the same thing happen, with the blue, official-seeming screen appearing after a pop-up was clicked. We were told we had a serious virus now, and needed to call this number. I googled the number and ended up here.

Thanks.  I called the no., music played for about five minutes and then nothing.  I did this twice then I googled the no. And found your post.   Thanks, my computer now works fine.  I was looking for blank calendars!

yes it is. all you need to do is force quit safari, then restart safari with the shift key down. this comes from the apple store blg page i was in when this happened to me in feb 2015. i just had this happen again today, and on 26 jul 2015. your phone company needs to be told about this. so that they can keep records so that the police and fbi can be brought into this. now that there is more people from other states being affected by this scam. they want money from you. DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER EVER!!!!!!!!!
