Apparently debt collection, recorded message,"Wayne Russell", requesting callback on 866-417-5779, states that it is reference to an "account associated with your Social Security number".  Threatens legal action.

I have been getting calls from these people as well.  Debra Benson is the lady who leaves me messages.  She is very rude, and threatening.  She says that it is an important legal matter associated with my SS# and my home.  That legal action will be taken depending on my responce to her call.   I have looked into this previously and everything they said was nothing more then scare tactics.(at least in my state TX)
I just ignore the calls now...considering changing my phone number.

I received this message and could not hear well in the answering machine. They mentioned SOCIAL SECURITY and a friend of mine returned the call to find out---- of course no personal information was to be given by us. They were EXTREMELY RUDE and using illegal scare tactics as you will lose your home and we will confiscate your salary etc etc... No one can confiscate your salary except the IRS  and no one can take your home witout legal actions etc  This is a collection agency that scares people do not listen to them---if you owe something do it in writing or settle in court  these people are really nasty!!!!!!

Record your calls - Its legal to do in TX without telling you are recording - excellent proof in court when you SUE them for FDCPA violations.

Recording calls from Debt Collectors - always double check YOUR OWN STATE Government Website
    http://www.budhibbs.com/record.htm

BY THE WAY - ITS LEGAL TO RECORD CALLS IN ALL 50 STATES - however YOUR state law determines whether you have to tell them you are recording or not.  MOST states do not require that you inform them you are recording,

if you live in a state the requires disclosure - you must tell them at the beginning of the call.  If they refuse consent - keep recording - tell them firmly DO NOT CALL BACK unless you are willing to be recorded then hang up.  Do this everytime they call!

I know my rights and if this continues all the messages they have left im calling a real lawyer. Legally you have to verify stuff which you never have because I dont really knowwho or what you are or about. According to others here an illegal scam look like to me.

They called me at 5:30 in the morning and was very rude and obnoxious to me.  They never verified that it was me they were talking to so for all they know it could have been my son that they were talking to and not me.  They said it was in regards to an HSBC credit card but they never would say if it was a mastercard, visa, amex, Discover or in store credit card and since I have never seen an HSBC credit card before, let alone possess one, I told them it must therefore be identity theft.

Called at 8:15am eastern time, was a man, gave a name (supposedly his) & asked me to id myself. I verified my name, but would not verify other than name until he told me his name, company he worked for, & purpose for call. Told me that he already knew me (I have never heard of the man) and asked me to verify the last 7 digits of my social #. Told him I would not do so since he refused to give me any information. He told me he would terminate the call if I did not verify my last four digits. Told him I would not do so since I didn't know him and he would give me no information on why he was calling. He hung up on me. Caller id only showed the this number as an "800 service).

It is illegal to attempt to get this type of information without identifying themselves, their company, purpose for call. For all I know this was an attempt to steal my identity.  Although from reading the comments above I would guess this person was illegally attempting to collect an alleged debt.

They cannot legally verify more than your name unless they id themselves and the call as an attempt to collect an alleged debt.

It is also legal to record the call (in any state) IF they tell you or a message tells you that the call may be or will be recorded for quality assurance purposes, etc. This means that the person you are talking with already knows that the call may be recorded.

They must provide documents that you owe them a debt for a credit card company or some other type debt. Request "PROOF OF DEBT" documents from them that should contain signatures by companies authorizing them to collect on the debt. If they can't provide these crucial documents, you likely do not need to pay on the "said" debt. It is a crime (FRAUD) for debt collectors to try to collect on a debt that is not legally owned to them.

    What to do first?
You can also send them a letter called a "Cease and Decist All Phone Contact" which means that they must stop calling you once you email or send them this type of letter (get proof of service). If they continie to call you, it is "harassment."

Woohoo, yet another idiot collector that calls, leaves no message and expects somehow to be responded to. On a number of the debt collection companies, they will attempt to reach by phone. After a month of that I will get a letter identifying them, the amount of debt, etc. At that point I can and will respond with a collect letter requesting their proof of owning the debt, etc. If they never send a letter and just keep calling they are not even in a position to sue, so they are totally ignorable. I just program their calls to a silent ring and they cease to bother me.
